Three things about Fort Kent

A good place for camping.

Located in Northern Maine, at almost the top of Aroostook county, Fort Kent is a treasure in itself. Lying just 30 minutes from the border of Quebec, Canada and just three hours from Quebec city, Fort Kent boasts a rich French Acadian heritage that is as much a part of the community as the people within. Lying close to a hundred miles from the nearest major city, Presque Isle, the culture of Fort Kent is deeply rooted and free from major influences. Though French is the dominant language, English is widely spoken. If your looking for a small place to get away to, Fort Kent is it! But, don't let the small population fool you into to thinking you'll be bored with nothing to do. Fort Kent boasts many exciting activites for the adventurer including hiking, camping, white water rafting nearby, skiing, snowshoeing, the great Can-Am sled dog race among others. If you are a sportsman or nature enthusiast, the surrounding area abounds in wildlife. Moose, bear, beaver, fox and wolves may be found throughout the surounding area and into the great Northern Maine Woods. (Made famous by Stephen King) If you would like to travel a little further, say half an hour or so, you can visit Allagash, Maine and the Allagash River, a fantastic place for fly fishing or white water rafting. All in all, Fort Kent has it all. There is something for everybody here whether it's the small, family-oriented business where everybody has a first name and no name tags or whether you are standing on the banks of the many lakes throughout the area or looking from the top of a mountain at the valley below, Fort Kent will remain etched in your memory. I hope this page helps you in deciding to visit or to relocate to Fort Kent. My name is Troy Leavitt and I am a current student of the University and I can tell you that Fort Kent will remain forever etched in my mind as I hope it will yours.
