Special Courses

GFC offers courses to those with special needs. Depending on demand, course length may vary. Short courses range from one day to 3 months of classes. These are not full martial arts programs, but are workshops designed to supplement martial arts training or introduce self-defense skills to non-practitioners. Review the topics below, and if you would like to host a workshop, please contact us.

Women's Street Survival

Women's Street Survival is a no-nonsense approach to rape prevention and street self-defense. The class covers strikes and kicks, hold releases, improvised/self-defense weapons, self-defense tools, victim awareness and date rape/sexual assault situations. This workshop is based on previous work with prior victims, and can be enlightening for anyone, including fathers of daughters and self-defense instructors. Perfect for women's groups, teen groups, social clubs, and girls sports teams.

How to Train for Martial Arts Competition

In this workshop, we cover the basic principles of point fighting and full contact kick-boxing. Elements of both styles of fighting complement each other well, so they are taught together. The course teaches basic techniques and attack strategies, defense and countering, mental and psychological attacks, choosing a fighting style, and more. We offer this seminar only to individuals and Eskrima clubs in the Sacramento Valley region. GFC will teach in martial arts schools outside of the Northern California area. If you or someone you know wishes to excel in competition fighting, this class is for you.

Enhancing your Stick-Fighting Skills

Many of the traditional drills and defense techniques in Eskrima and Arnis curriculums do not apply well in stickfighting. In this course, we treat stickfighting as a separate skill. Based primarily on awareness and strategy, we will teach you to think like a stickfighter, and therefore train and fight like a stickfighter. Your stickfighting performance will improve 100% after your first session. Prior experience in Eskrima is not a prerequisite.

Self-Defense for the Family

For those interested in self-defense, but not in a full time program, this is for you. Taught either in your home or our school, we offer a weekly, semi-private (private if in your home) 4-session course in self-defense that will give you the basic tools to adequately protect yourself. We will cover (in addition to the general subjects) basic physical fitness, "self-defense for the playground" (for kids), and women's self-protection. This class is priced by the course, regardless of number of people, so invite your family members and friends. Ideal for church groups, social groups, and family functions.
