Appearance: Blade looks alittle like Mike Sanders in terms of build and general appearance. He has short brown hair and hazel eyes, he wears black nylon cargos and a white tank top to the ring with black combat boots, black elbow pads and tapes his fists up with white tape.
Personality: Blade has three separate modes-the smooth operator on the mic, the maniac in the clubs and the veteran in the ring. As the “Smooth Operator” he tends to get to the point of the interviews/challenges rather quickly and to the point. When he’s pissed, doesn’t take the time to do his usual work and call out the offending jackasses. As the Veteran in the ring, he is very brutal-taking the “Chainsaw to Cancer” approach of wrestling. As a trained Cruiserweight, Blade can still hit moves like Shane Helms in WCW, only with a bit more force due to his 255 pounds. As a ring hardened veteran of the ring wars of Mexico, Japan, Canada, Germany and Europe-Blade tends to wrestle his own way-victory by any means possible! Also, he will fight to help any member of any stable that he’s apart of. But he will fight even harder to help his friends which are the Reaver, Storm and the “Marauder” Eric Gibson.
Characteristics: Blade’s in ring work is considered to be a cross between Shane Helms of WCW and Justin Credible of ECW. He is faster than his partner Storm, but not stronger. His Moonsaults/Planchas/Shooting Star Presses are considered to be some of more effective moves in his arsenal, however his “Maverick Implant” DDT has also proven to be quiet effective in recent months. He has also added the Reaver’s “Multiplex” into his moves set under the name of the “Maverick Series” as a way of honoring one of his best friends.
Basic History: Blade is a well versed former Luchadore from Austin Texas. It’s said that he was trained by Chavo Gurrerro Sr, but he refuses to say if this is real or not. In attempt at improving his wrestling skills, Blade went to Afa the Wild Samoan’s wrestling school where he meet his future Tag Team Partner. After 12 months of training, Blade dropped his luchadore persona for that of “Prime Time” Matt Hunter which he used for three years in IWA-winning the IWA World, TV Tag and IC belts-before joining up with the “Pale Riders” stable as the “Punisher” Matt Hunter. He stayed in IWA until he heard about the opening of the “Frontier Wrestling Alliance” or FWA. He signed up with the fed and was entered into the tournament to crown the first world champion. He made it to the third round before loosing to up and comer The “Midnight Rocker” (now “Taskmaster”) Eddie Maim. The “Punisher” watched in amazement as his own former training partner won the title later that very night and somewhere, a new persona was formed in the FWA Arena in Los Angels CA. Four months later, the FWA World Champion-The “Shockmaster” Jacob Sikes-was signed to meet a new challenger by the name of “Blade”. After Sikes made his way to the ring, Blade made his! Blade made an extra challenge to the champion that if he-Blade-won, then Sikes would have to become what he truly was and be his tag team partner. Sikes agreed and a twenty minute classic happened and ended with a strange twist…Sikes apparently missed his signature move and Blade caught him for it and won the match….the next week, the Mavericks tag team was formed with Storm as his partner. Blade made history as the second FWA World Champion. Over the next few months, the Mavericks became one of the most hated, but loved teams in the FWA. Soon, the Mavericks were expanded with Bossa (currently “Perfect” Peter Graves), Nova (currently “Reckless” Ricky Nova), Feral (kept his name) and Strife (currently Brett “Big Train” Colt) and Spider (Matt’s kid brother Kevin). The “Maverick World Order” broke up due to the originals just wanted to be themselves. Over the course of the next eight years, the Mavericks went on a federation to federation rampage, laying tag team after tag team down with their signature move-The Maverick Virus. Eventually, a in ring injury at the hands of the “Coven” stable in Super Japan Pro Wrestling took Storm out of the picture…and put Blade into a partnership with his friend the Reaver. The two became the “Maverick Express” and won titles also and the duo still team from time to time with amazing success. In late 1999, the Mavericks went their own separate ways for awhile, with Storm going back to being The “Shockmaster” Jacob Sikes and winning the FWA title again while Blade became the “Punisher” Matt Hunter and attempted to win the SCW Mid-Atlantic and Tag Team titles with “Reckless” Ricky Nova. During the second ever joint SWA PPV entitled “Fatal Fury” on December 12th 2000-the Mavericks made a sudden appearance with the Reaver against the “Triple Threat” of the SWA Unified Tag Team Champions (Slash and the “Marauder” Eric Gibson) and the “Enforcer” Jeremy Grant. Gibson turned on his own stable and the “Fearsome Foursome” was formed officially with Gibson’s fiancé Gina managing. Blade recently and briefly returned to his “Prime Time” persona in the Flock INC/Rogue Horsemen war in order to bring an end to that stable war. Blade is once again one half of the Mavericks and they have their eyes set on EWI….
Personality: Storm is the opposite of his partner and his name sake. He is very calm and very collective, he usually takes care of the team’s various dealings with federations (booking matches for them, title shots, travel, contracts, etc) and he usually also handles most of the interviews. He is a veteran, like his partner, of the ring wars of several countries and as such, it shows in his speech and manners. In the ring however, he remains the same as outside of the ring, but only he uses his massive strength and vast array of skills to their full potential. He will also come to the aide of his partners in crime/best friends as well as his stable mates with the same power.
Characteristics: Okay, this is where it gets kind of sticky. Storm is a wrestler whom Afa himself stated was “one tricky bastard”! Storm is very agile for a 6’6/322 pound monster and he shows it with his signature Flying Clothesline-which is the only high flying move he does aside from a Plancha from hell and his other signature “freak move”-the “Hipbuster” (an Elbow Drop from the ring apron to the poor opponent on the floor!!). Storm also uses power moves with great ease as a person would slap on a Suplex. To him, wrestling is just as fun as going to nightclubs (his favorite pastime outside wrestling).
Basic History: Jacob Andrew Sikes was born to a well off family in his hometown of Denver Colorado, very smart…but different in his choice of friends and mannerisms. Jacob or “Storm” to his friends was a kid of the night, a goth. He was listening to Sisters of Mercy and the like while hanging out in nightclubs most of the night-at age 14 he had learned how to make fake Ids. His father thought that his eldest child needed some better goals and friends in life, so he enrolled Jacob in several martial arts classes and the high school wrestling team when he was a freshman in high school. Jacob started out the year at a height of 6’1 and 230. He kept going to the marital arts classes and wrestling in high school while still keeping the same friends and doing the same things he did before. In his junior year, life finally caught up with him and he hit a growth spurt from hell!! He hit a height of 6’5 and weighed in at 276 pounds at the start of the year…and when he finished high school-he had reached his full height of 6’6. He struck out on his own and started making a living as a bouncer for the very night clubs that he once went to with friends. One night, a friend pointed out that he would make a very good pro-wrestler and pointed him out to a wrestling school-Afa the Wild Samoan’s. Sikes traveled to where the school was located and Afa set him up with another new student-Matt Hunter, a former luchadore. The two became not only great training partners-but also great friends as well. After Afa’s, the two went their separate ways in the world of wrestling. Jacob went to bounce for his old night club while wrestling in the locally based UWF federation that soon became the FWA. Jacob tried his hand at the FWA and became it’s first world champion in the process. Four months later, he faced off against his friend Matt-who had returned as the Maverick Blade-and lost the FWA title to his friend and became the second Maverick…Storm. The team of Blade and Storm spent the next few years on a tag team path of rage across five countries and won titles almost everywhere they went-when they weren’t wrestling they were enjoying the nightclubs of said countries. It wasn’t until the duo got to SCW (Superior Championship Wrestling) that the duo had to take the personas of “Feral” and “Strife” so that they wouldn’t be mixed up with the SCW Superior Tag Team Champions in Blade and Hammer (The MOD Squad)-who were copying the Mavericks. The duo’s infamous 2000 spilt and Storm went back to being The “Shockmaster” Jacob Sikes and won the FWA World Title for a second time. At the “Fatal Fury” PPV, Sikes once again became Storm and the Mavericks with the Reaver and the “Marauder” Eric Gibson, became the “Fearsome Foursome”-becoming the first ever SWA Stable Champions two months later. Now, the Mavericks are heading for EWI-What kind of havoc will this duo cause now is anybodies guess….
