London gun murders tripled in 2001 Gun murders in London tripled in April and May this year compared with the same period in 2000, police said on Wednesday. "In April and May of last year there were 33 murders, and for the same period of 2001 there were 42. Thirteen of this year's were firearms murders...for last year the figure was four," a spokesman for Scotland Yard told Reuters. During the same period this year, there were 46 non-fatal shootings in the British capital, taking total shootings to 59 or an average of one a day. There was no comparative statistic for 2000. The spokesman said most of the shootings were drug-related, and particularly so-called "Yardie" incidents as rival black gangs vie to control the lucrative trade in cocaine. He said 38 of the 59 shooting incidents were Yardie-related. "There are concerns about the number of firearms in circulation and we obviously are working very hard to counteract that," the spokesman said. "They are coming in illegally from other countries," he said, adding that Eastern Europe and Jamaica were among the top sources of the illegal guns. comment: But wait - England is the gun control paradise, isn't it? Where criminals can't get guns because they're illegal? Interesting that Jamaica is a source, of all places - they too have strict controls on firearms.
ALERT: GUN-SHOW BILL IS NOT WHAT THEY SAY, by Alan Korwin

Re: S. 890, The McCain-Lieberman Bill: "Gun Show Loophole Closing and Gun Law Enforcement Act of 2001."

Mass media publicity on the newly proposed gun-show bill is grossly inaccurate.

The bill has almost nothing to do with what you've probably heard so far. The so-called "gun-show loophole" headlines are
a minor detail and basically obscure what the bill really does.

I've just finished studying the eight pages of legalese. Here is it what it calls for:

1. Unprecedented federal control over gun shows nationwide -- perfectly legal gun shows become strictly outlawed without prior federal approval, licensing and registration of each show;

2. Centralized federal licensing and registration of every gun-show promoter in the nation;

3. Centralized federal registration of every vendor -- including non-gun vendors --  at any gun show in the country.  In order for me to sell my BOOKS at a gun show I'll have to pre-register and prove who I am, or face arrest; a private individual looking to sell a single gun would be treated as a vendor under this law and must be registered even if the gun isn't sold;

4. Centralized federal registration of EVERY PERSON who attends a gun show in America, whether or not they make purchases of anything at all -- you won't be allowed in without registering;

5. Centralized collection of "any other information" on gun-show attendees, as determined solely by the Secretary of the Treasury;

6. Imprisonment for attending a gun show and failing to give up any information required by regulations of the Secretary of the Treasury;

7. Imprisonment of any gun-show promoter who fails to register a single vendor;

8. Imprisonment of gun-show promoters who cannot prove they notified every person attending a gun show of the new rules, and obtained from attendees any information the Secretary of the Treasury mandates by regulation;

9. Centralized collection of "any other information" the Secretary of the Treasury decides, by regulation, is necessary on vendors, attendees, and the gun show itself;

10. Submission by gun-show promoters of vendor registration logs a) 30 days before any gun show, and b) additional submission of updated vendor registration logs 72 hours before any gun show, and c) additional submission of vendor registration logs within five days of the close of any gun show, under penalty of arrest and imprisonment for non-compliance;

11. Identification of vendors only by use of federally approved photo ID that may include use of a social security number, electronically encoded data, or "biometric identifiers" such as fingerprint, voice print, retina scan, iris scan, or similar (as defined under 18 USC 1028(d)(2));

12. Creation of a new license (in addition to a gun-show-promoter license), similar to FFLs, for individuals who want access to the NICS national background check system for facilitating gun-show sales for private citizens;

13. Regulations to be issued by the Secretary of the Treasury on the procedures, data collections, methods and implementation of the entire process to federally control gun shows, in addition to the requirements made by the proposed statute;  such regulations will not be known, drafted or even suggested, until after the McCain-Lieberman law is enacted;

14. The proposed bill also puts pressure on state governments to make at least 95% of their law enforcement records for the past 30 years openly available to the federal government; and - -- makes unlimited funds available for the states to comply with these federal goals;

- -- requires annual federal review of states' compliance;

- -- increases penalties (up to ten years imprisonment) for record-keeping violations;

- -- grants states permission to make even more restrictive requirements without being out of compliance with these new federal laws (and by implication, puts states that resist these rules in federal trouble);

- -- provides hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars for more law enforcement under numerous programs including project Exile and others;

- -- hires 200 more Federal BATF Agents;

- -- provides $10 million to the National Institute for Justice to give out for research on "technologies that limit the use of a gun to the owner"; and

- -- provides for annual reports (in great detail) by the Attorney General to Congress on whether the Brady law is working;

15. Enlargement of the federal bureaucracy and appropriation from taxpayers of "such funds as are necessary" to license, register and monitor an estimated ten million non-criminals who attend the thousands of gun shows held annually in America; and

16. Oh yes, I almost forgot about the so-called "loophole" part the media is so excited about -- the McCain-Lieberman bill will make an honest private citizen a criminal for transferring a gun to another honest private citizen, without first registering the transfer with, and getting permission from, the federal government (represented by the FBI at its data complex in Clarksburg, West Virginia).

Transfer or possession of a firearm to or by a criminal (a "federally prohibited possessor") is completely unaffected by the McCain-Lieberman "loophole" bill, so I guess it's accurate to characterize it as a loophole bill.

To sum up: Perfectly legal gun sales -- with no victims or criminal activity of any kind -- are outlawed at gun shows by the McCain-Lieberman bill, unless the sale is pre-registered with the federal government; real crimes are totally unaffected; and your friends in the federal government take over full control of gun shows -- which have been previously free of government infringement for more than 200 years.

U.N. Targets American Gun Owners
Wayne R. LaPierre
Saturday, May 12, 2001
The endgame ... includes overriding national sovereignty regarding firearms.
A push for United Nations action on global gun bans - expected in July - has been preceded with release of a propaganda video that paints its message blood red, and I quote: "A gun born ... a killer is on the loose ... small arms are not fussy about the company they keep ... and they can murder indiscriminately."

This film - "Armed to the Teeth: The Worldwide Plague of Small Arms" -is a prelude to a U.N. conference on a global gun control scheme that could affect Americans' future right to keep and bear arms.

"The United Nations Conference on the Illicit Trade in Small Arms and All Its Aspects" will be held in July at U.N. headquarters in New York.

This sounds like an effort to target gunrunners and terrorists, but only in part. And therein is the trap. Opposition to the U.N. summit will be smeared as support for international crime. That would be a lie. Our opposition stems from something that should be dear to all Americans - our national sovereignty and individual freedom.

This summer's conference culminates years of work by a host of leftist groups, many working under the direction of the International Action Network on Small Arms (IANSA) and the U.N. Preparatory Committee (PrepCom), which met this past January and published a manifesto they hope will override our Bill of Rights.

It is called the "Draft Programme of Action ... ." In its foggy dialectic, "illicit" doesn't mean what a reasonable person might think it means. In their translation, our guns are also ultimately "illicit" guns. Further, "All Its Aspects" also covers legal commerce in firearms, and legal private ownership.

Among those associated with IANSA's worldwide gun ban efforts are: Coalition for Gun Control, Canada; Coalition for Gun Control, New Zealand; Coalition to Stop Gun Violence, U.S.; Million Mom March, U.S.; and National Coalition for Gun Control, Australia.

These groups seek worldwide gun control measures that include international firearms registration and primacy of the "world criminal court" over violations.

The IANSA lists among its major funding sources: the Ford Foundation, the Rockefeller Foundation, Ploughshears Fund, The Compton Foundation, Belgian Ministry for Development Cooperation, Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the United Kingdom Department for International Development.

Virtually alone against this array of richly funded international pressure groups is the NRA.

The Bulletin of Atomic Scientists advises, "If activists want to fight the NRA and like-minded groups on the international level, they must confront them at home, because domestic and international weapons issues are intertwined."

Anyone who argues that this international battle is only about terrorists and illegal guns need only look at what the global gun control forces are saying. In a pre-conference planning session in January, IANSA reported, "The speakers urged the Conference to take action in key areas affecting both the legal and illegal trade including ... controls on the availability, use and storage of small arms within states, including strong domestic firearms regulation as well as a prohibition on the sale and possession of military weapons by civilians." And in their view, any firearm ever used by any armed forces or based on military design is a "military" weapon.

The endgame - which includes the aggressive use of "transnational" power, thus overriding national sovereignty regarding firearms - is the collection and destruction of firearms, including guns from what they condescendingly call in U.N. bureaucratese "civil society." That's you and me.

The Draft Programme demands the U.N. be empowered: "To ensure that all confiscated, seized or collected small arms and light weapons are destroyed expeditiously ... To encourage States [countries], in the interests of awareness raising and confidence building, to carry out public destruction events. To develop a reference manual on ecologically safe methods of small arms and light weapons destruction."

What they are really after is all guns, worldwide, save for those in the hands of governments and the elite.

There is no doubt that American gun owners are the target. In the short term, the global disarmament crowd, at the very least, will open a campaign to shame America into joining its English-speaking cousins in Canada and crime-ravaged Britain and Australia.

The stated goal of the U.N. gun control boosters is "eliminating the conditions that foster reliance on private arms for self-defense." Well, the primary "conditions" are a knowledge of history and a love of freedom.

There are watchwords for who we are: independent, strong, and free.

And at the forefront of our independence, strength and freedom today is the NRA.

United Nations

U.N. Wants Global Gun Ban

The U.N. is after Americans' Second Amendment gun rights - it wants gun ownership banned in the U.S., and it's not going to stop until it gets its way.

That's the warning from the National Rifle Association's Wayne LaPierre, who reveals that "for the first time in the history of the world, a United Nations conference has set its sights on global disarmament - disarming citizens worldwide - including you and me."

At an 11-day meeting beginning July 9 at U.N. headquarters in New York, every extremist anti-gun group in the world will show up at a summit on "small arms," where the delegates will attempt to create a global standard of gun control, banning civilian fire arms ownership worldwide.

Their aim, LaPierre warns, is "to bring the nightmare of England, Australia and Canada into our country and our homes."

As a prelude to this frightening gathering of anti-self-defense fanatics, a number of proposals have already been advanced at various U.N. forums. Among them:

 * Strategies to reduce the number of guns in private hands
   that include mandating a maximum one-gun-per-person rule;

 * A ban on possession of handguns by anyone other than
   government officials and target shooters who would be forced
   to store their weapons at shooting ranges;

 * Worldwide licensing of firearms registered in a vast U.N.
   computer bank.

"The bottom line is that international gun banners want every gun - every single gun worldwide - to be under U.N. and government control," warns LaPierre. "And that includes your rifle, your shotgun, your handgun, and even family heirlooms that have been handed down from generation to generation."

Forcing doctors to ask kids about guns
Pending bill requires pediatricians to query patients on state program

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

By Julie Foster
© 2001 WorldNetDaily.com

The high cost of a controversial bill in the California State Senate that would require pediatricians, in thousands of health screenings per year, to question kids on family gun ownership landed the measure yesterday in what is euphemistically called the "bone yard" of the state legislature, giving it one more hurdle to clear before heading to the full Senate.

Californians balked last year when Assemblyman Darrell Steinberg, D-Sacramento, proposed a substantially similar bill to Senate Bill 765 by Sen. Wesley Chesbro, D-Santa Rosa. Sent to the "suspense file" in the Senate Appropriations Committee yesterday, SB 765 resurrects a concept eventually removed from the vetoed Steinberg bill -- codification of the American Academy of Pediatrics publication "Recommendations for preventive pediatric health care." That report specifically includes recommendations made in the AAP's 1999 publication, "The Role of the Pediatrician in Youth Violence Preve! ntion in Clinical Practice," which outlines measures to be taken by pediatricians in violence prevention, including advocacy of gun-control proposals.

Since the bill incurs an estimated annual cost of $8.6 million, it was automatically sent to the suspense file, as are all bills proposing costs of $150,000 or more.

According to the AAP, the violence-prevention publication "establishes an agenda for making this a routine part of pediatric practice in four major areas: clinical services, community advocacy, research and education. This broad agenda builds on a still-evolving body of knowledge, but the urgency of youth violence prevention requires further and immediate action by pediatricians."

"Because many pediatricians encounter children and youth who are experiencing or are at risk for violence, pediatricians are well situated to intervene," states the document. "Prevention of youth violence requires that pediatricians recognize violence-related risk factors and diagnose and treat violence-related problems at all stages of child development."

Among the screening criteria listed in the report to identify "risk factors for violence among their patients" are:

"family stresses that could lead to violence (e.g., unemployment, divorce or death);
appropriate supervision and care and support systems (e.g., child care arrangements, the family and social network);
disciplinary attitudes and practices of the parents or caregivers (particularly about corporal punishment and physical/emotional abuse);
exposure to violence in the home (domestic violence or child abuse), school or community;
degree of exposure to media violence;
access to firearms (especially handguns) in their or a neighbor's home, or the community."
The Chesbro bill is intended to allay the concerns of the federal Health Care Financing Administration, according to the assemblyman's staff. Currently, some participants in the state's health-care program, Medi-Cal, are treated according to the AAP guidelines, but others are not. The agency sent a letter saying treatment for Medi-Cal beneficiaries should be the same across the board. Such a change would result in 248,000 more health screens for children ages 0-12, and 17,000 more for children ages 13-20, who use the state's low-income health-care program, staff said.

While acknowledging the importance of health care and safety for children, a public-policy group believes the bill sets a "dangerous precedent." SB 765 requires the AAP recommendations to be used when setting state health-care standards and that those standards "shall be updated as necessary to be consistent with any changes made by the American Academy of Pediatrics."

"It asks state legislators to abdicate their right to set state policy," said Karen Holgate of Capitol Resource Institute. According to the bill, the AAP recommendations would be included only after review by the state board that approves the health standards.

"While the [violence-prevention recommendations] may be legitimate areas of concern, one wonders about the appropriateness of requiring all pediatricians to grill their patients about their homes and families without due cause," Holgate continued.

The AAP report begins by stating, "Each child and family is unique; therefore, these Recommendations for Preventive Pediatric Health Care are designed for the care of children who are receiving competent parenting, have no manifestations of any important health problems, and are growing and developing in satisfactory fashion. Additional visits may become necessary if circumstances suggest variations from normal."

Consistent with its health-screening requirements referred to by the Chesbro bill, the AAP also includes a sweeping gun-control proposal in its list of model legislation. Titled the "Protection of Children from Handguns Act," one measure states that, "except in the hands of law enforcement officers or others specifically authorized by law, handguns serve no legitimate or lawful purpose, and constitute a hazard to the public health and welfare of the people, and especially of the children, of this State. [O]nly the prohibition of the manufacture, sale, and possession of handguns will remove handguns from the homes and streets of this State, thereby reducing the risks of injury and death to children from handguns."

The proposal would impose felony criminal penalties amounting up to $10,000 and/or two years in prison for manufacturing handguns and up to $2,500 and/or two years in prison for people who "enter into commerce, ship, transport, transfer, sell, sell at a gunshow, lease, or distribute" handguns. Possession of a handgun would qualify as a misdemeanor and result in up to a $1,000 fine and/or one year in prison for each offense.

Like its predecessor, SB 765 is expected to be approved by the Senate and will likely move from the Appropriations Committee to the full Senate in late May.

BOSTON - April 20
National guard units seeking to confiscate a cache of recently banned weapons were ambushed on April 19th by elements of a para-military extremist faction. Military and law enforcement sources estimate that 72 were killed and more than 200 injured before government forces were compelled to withdraw.

Speaking after the clash Massachusetts Governor Thomas Gage declared that the extremist faction, which was made up of local citizens, has links to the radical right-wing tax protest movement. Gage blamed the extremists for recent incidents of vandalism directed against internal revenue offices. The governor, who described the group's organizers as "criminals," issued an executive order authorizing the summary arrest of any individual who has interfered with the government's efforts to secure law and order.

The military raid on the extremist arsenal followed wide-spread refusal by the local citizenry to turn over recently outlawed weapons. Gage issued a ban on private ownership of weapons and ammunition earlier in the week. This decision followed a meeting in early this month between government and military leaders at which the governor authorized the forcible confiscation of illegal arms. One government official, speaking on condition of anonymity, pointed out that "none of these people would have been killed had the extremists obeyed the law and turned over their weapons voluntarily."

Government troops initially succeeded in confiscating a large supply of outlawed weapons and ammunition. However, troops attempting to seize arms and ammunition in Lexington met with resistance from heavily-armed extremists who had been tipped off regarding the government's plans.

During a tense standoff in Lexington's town park, National Guard Colonel Francis Smith, commander of the government operation, ordered the armed group to surrender and return to their homes. The impasse was broken by a single shot, which was reportedly fired by one of the right-wing extremists. Eight civilians were killed in the ensuing exchange. Ironically, the local citizenry blamed government forces rather than the extremists for the civilian deaths.

Before order could be restored, armed citizens from the surrounding areas had descended upon the guard units. Colonel Smith, finding his forces overmatched by the armed mob, ordered a retreat.

Governor Gage has called upon citizens to support the state national joint task force in its effort to restore law and order. The governor has also demanded the surrender of those responsible for planning and leading the attack against the government troops. Samuel Adams, Paul Revere, and John Hancock, who have been identified as "ringleaders" of the extremist faction, remain at large.

              First reported on April 20, 1775

The first three battles of the revolution were fought over gun control. Those battles had nothing to due with commerce, taxes or tea. Those battles were fought by those currently described as "Christian conservatives".

They didn't want to fight the British, they just wanted to be left alone. However, they would not tolerate confiscation of their only viable means of self protection.

Gun control is hitting your target the very first time you pull the trigger AND every time thereafter. Gun control is not gun confiscation. Gun control is not restrictions on gun ownership. These ARE people control which ARE blatant violations of the Second Amendment to our CONSTITUTION.

Senate Panel OKs Licensing, Tests for Handgun Buyers
Firearms: Vote comes as Davis appears to be retreating from promise last year not to approve major gun control bills.

A Senate committee voted Tuesday to require California handgun buyers to pass safety tests and be licensed by the state starting Jan. 1, 2003.

Approval by the Senate Public Safety Committee came as Gov. Gray Davis, who declared that he would not sign any major gun control bills last year, sent a signal that he may be softening his stance. "He's not closed the door on new [gun] legislation this year," said governor's spokesman Roger Salazar. "He'll evaluate it on its merits. The door is slightly ajar."

"I'd like to walk through that door," Sen. Jack Scott (D-Altadena), author of the handgun licensing bill, said before the committee hearing.

SB 52, which would make California one of only a handful of states that require handgun owners to be licensed, cleared the committee on a bipartisan ! 4-1 vote and went to the Appropriations Committee for another hearing.

Last year, Scott guided a similar handgun licensing bill through the Assembly and Senate but abandoned it one step short of final passage when confronted by a threatened veto from Davis. "I plan to carry this bill forward," Scott said Tuesday. "I'm hopeful the governor will sign it."

Letter to the Editor

Dear Sir,
    I read with some delight, (CCT 4/13/01 pg A17) how the government reported gun deaths declined 25% in the mid 1990's, to the lowest level since 1966. In1998 gun-related deaths fell to 11.4 per 100,000 people in the U.S. That is good news & it happened before all the Knee-jerk politicians, passed even more laws to keep guns out of the hands of law-abiding citizens.
    Then I read with some amusement on the Editorial Page, "Get Rid of Guns" by gun nemesis Yan Pawlak. Mr. Pawlak, with his usual anti-gun rhetoric, goes on to criticize a letter by Rex Farrance, by using the same tactics, he criticizes. That, Mr. Pawlak is called hypocrisy.
     Some people may believe that all guns are bad. Used irresponsibly, guns are dangerous. But not as dangerous as cars, alcohol & tobacco! More children die annually from bike accidents than guns. Gun owners are not the minority that the liberal media would like them to be. This country was built on Principle's like "Freedom of the Press" & the "Right to Bear Arms". You can pass more anti-gun laws, but the criminal element doesn't give a hoot. The criminals are not about to get rid of their illegal guns, because a law is passed. If you think guns are dangerous, put a sign on your lawn to keep the criminals safe from gun-owners. Society is safer when criminals don't know who is armed.
    I ask that all gun owners store their firearms safely & use them responsibly. I also ask the anti-gun owners to try a new hobby, like Bullseye's, Sporting Clays, Action Pistol, etc. They might see that safe gun use is fun. And being prepared is better than not.

NEW LEGISLATION WOULD BE BAD NEWS FOR WESTERN GUN OWNERS

A gun control measure introduced in the U.S. House of
Representatives this session could effectively stop
Americans living in the western United States from carrying
and owning firearms, according to one Second Amendment
proponent.

House Resolution (HR) 731, introduced February 27 by Rep.
Robert Andrews (D-N.J.), seeks to "prohibit the discharge of
a firearm within 1,000 feet of any federal land or
facility." This would virtually stop all hunting!

Founder of the Second Amendment Foundation, Alan Gottlieb,
said that Andrews' bill would not deny gun owners the right
to carry or possess their firearms. But preventing or
limiting discharge would in essence, nullify the intent of
the Second Amendment.

"What if someone breaks into your house, which is located
within 1,000 feet of federal land?" Gottlieb asked. "You use
a gun in self-defense, but then lo and behold, you're
breaking the law."

HR 731 was referred to the House Committee on the Judiciary
February 27. No action has taken place since.

LATEST METCALF REPORT
02/09/2000

There are several kinda cool things working in the background for us that
we should see the results of soon. Meanwhile, in an effort to improve on
the lousy job I have been doing in keeping everyone up to speed on routine
status, here is a list of some significant organizational, procedural and
networking items.

We have been blessed with some extraordinary grassroots volunteers and
volunteer leaders. Whereas during the SB-23 Referendum drive we often felt
like we were herding cats, this time, we have learned from our past
mistakes.

    1. Teri Seago (Ter the Terrible at itachi@earthlink.net) has been
named Manager of Statewide Grassroot Volunteers. Ter has been coordinating
with regional managers and will be posting names e-mails addresses and
schedules on a new link here on the home page. Please coordinate various
 events  with Teri through email.

    2. I have been holding back on a couple of items until I finally
get an opportunity to speak with Wayne LaPierre regarding what we can or
cannot expect from the NRA. We will know one way or another what the NRA
will or won t do to support our efforts within two weeks.

    3. This weekend we will conduct a signature count and post the
preliminary results Monday. From that point forward we will post to the
home page (on a weekly basis) Signatures to date; Signatures required;
dates to qualify.

    4. Don Kilmer and I will start a series of speaking engagements
across the state. Next week I am speaking to the Libertarian Party State
convention and hope to secure their endorsement.

    5. The political environment has been both interesting and annoying.
We will be posting to the web page state politicians who DO and those who
DO NOT endorse our initiative.

    6. During the Referendum drive we established over 600 retail
locations where people could find, sign, and submit petitions. However,
this time, we are lagging behind and really need you to deliver petitions
to friendly retail locations AND posting the location to our county
location link. THIS IS IMPORTANT.

    7. PLEASE do not sit on petitions. MAIL THEM ASAP. We have a team in
Sacramento that has been tasked with the primary responsibility of
collecting, counting, and collating signed petitions.

    8. We are about to kick into overdrive on several fronts, and we need
any and all help. If you have not yet registered through the web page as a
volunteer please do so.

We have a unique opportunity that can only be exploited with all of YOUR
help. There has been incredible support from several surprising quarters.
The Leg Counsel analysis we have is unprecedented. However, there are
still some who say "Hey why do we need this? We have the Second
Amendment." Fundamentally, and academically they are right. However, the
reality check is this: most of the bad, anti-gun obstacles we encounter
are a direct result of the omissions in the California Constitution. This
Constitutional Amendment is designed to correct those omissions.

I am asking Don Kilmer to outline for you the compelling legal reasons why
this effort is so important.

We CAN qualify this initiative for the ballot. We CAN create the tools
necessary to stop wholesale assaults on liberty and freedom. We can
significantly reduce crime, and save the state money in the process.
However, we cannot to any of this without YOUR support, your efforts, and
your commitment to "get ten people to get ten people to get ten people" to
sign our petition.

As we continue to wait for the language from the Attorney General
necessary to produce the petition, here's what IS happening.

Initial response has been outstanding. Over 100,000 visitors to
the page in a week ain't bad. Before this week is out I am
instructing our web guru to post an organizational overview.
This might turn into a train wreck, but here's what I plan.
Instead of using the traditional congressional districts as
'zones' I have divided the state into regions by county. We ask
that when you sign on to volunteer you do so by COUNTY.

This is going to a bottom up campaign. We will have a Board of
about eight people. Each of the eight will have eight, and each
of those eight will have eight and so on, and so on etc. There
is no hierarchy, and there are no bosses. WE ARE ALL GRUNTS.
There is an old M.P. motto that applies to us all "Of the
troopsfor the troops", and we are ALL troops.

There is some interesting strategic and detail stuff happening
that I will share with you when it is crystallized. We have also
been informed there should be a major endorsement forthcoming.
Sorry to tease, but as soon as it's official you'll see it here.

Meanwhile continue to spread the word, and I will do likewise.

One final note to those frightened intimidated souls who bemoan
this effort and fear "What if we lose?" There are two responses:

* We have already lost. By avoiding the fight you only guarantee
    the adversary will triumph without any cost to them.

* WHAT IF WE WIN???? And there is no way you can ever win if you
    refuse to play.

I think having a webpage for this is a good idea. If the issues were posted, our thoughts could be shared, and come up with a common direction which we could all communicate to our elected officials. It would be helpful to post the e-mail addresses of our elected officials to whom we need to send our opinions about proposed guns legislation. In the past, the NRA has been pretty good about providing mailing cards that are pre-addressed and all the members have to do is sign them and stamp 'em. For those of us with e-mail capabilities, it would be easier to fire off a message knowing what the issues are and what e-mail addresses to send them to. Just a thought. To keep some of us more in the loop on the latest issues, it might be helpful if you're going to post information on the website, to see how much more effort would be involved in e-mailing updates to us too? There are already some good resources out there such as www.calnra.org that keep track of this stuff but a discussion board for Diablo shooters is still a good idea. Our Constitutional rights are being trampled and we need to do something about it. Anything you want to add to the website that makes it easier for people to get the needed information would be helpful. The good news is NRA membership is increasing due to the threats against the 2nd Amendment. Take Care, Mark L. Turrin

Here is a pretty good link to a website for gun legislation information: www.guntruths.com Check it out. Geoff Metcalf, who is a talk-radio host on KSFO from Noon to 2:00PM, is talking about gettng a grass-roots organization together to get SB 23 overturned. The details of this action have not been revealed. He has a website at www.geoffmetcalf.com. He is available for speaking engagments for a fee. I emailed Geoff today and mentioned that I'm a member of Diablo Rod and Gun and suggested that there would be quite a few members willing to work against SB 23. Let's get going on this! Best regards, Ken Stehr

I think it is important to get mobilized as fast as possible to prevent further erosion of our Constitutional rights and to try to overturn those transgressions already implemented. I was at the range last weekend and talked with Tom Bedoes. He thinks that we will need to fund a law-suit against the State to block SB 23 which looks like Davis will sign at a photo-op party at 101 California Street in SF next week. Maybe this is a protest opportunity? I will be happy to write articles for the web-page. I get my information from the NRA and GOA and GOC newsletters, however, so it's not real news. Perhaps we should consider establishing an NRA Grass Roots organization in Concord. I have heard of one in the Vallejo area and I think they meet once a month at a pizza joint. The pupose of such an organization would be to consolidate our efforts to educate both the non-shooting and unaware gun owners in the area. Anyway, these are some ideas. It will be interesting to see if there is any response from the other members. I hope every DAP shooter with a model 1911 knows that they will own an illegal firearm as soon as Davis signs SB 23. Best regards, Ken
