Hearing Hansen...

What is the difference between WWF and WCW?

In answer to this question many non wrestling fans would reply with, they are both the same thing but fans who have been watching both WWF and WCW for a while would say differently. Does the average fan prefer the sports entertainment side of the WWF with superstars such as The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin or would the fan prefer the action packed WCW with the over the top story lines and fantastic PPV stipulations. Being a fan of both federations it is hard to decide which is the place to be on a Monday night? It may seem obvious to neutral fans that WWF is much better because the ratings of its second in line weekly show Smackdown! Gets ratings still over 1.5 million more than WCW’s first show Nitro. However WCW is on the up because it’s programmes dedicated to highlights such as Saturday Night and Worldwide are getting better ratings that the same shows but on the WWF scene Livewire and Superstars so these are small signs that WCW is slowly pulling through starting at the bottom. So is it fair that in magazines, web sites and TV programmes that support both WWF and WCW always show the WWF information first, whatever it is, that is what I will be finding out and explaining throughout this column and other columns. So keep reading. So is it fair that WWF always gets the advantage in this situation or should WCW get it’s fair share of publicity?

Take WWF first, do the fans prefer the sports entertainment side or the real wrestling side of the broadcast. But with superstars ranging from The Rock and highly technical wrestlers such as Chris Benoit it clearly shows that with a variety of superstars like this the WWF can fill every one of the spectators and fans expectations, it has a little bit of everything to please each and every individual. There are also a lot of other small subjects such as Humour, which at the moment is on a high being filled by Edge, Christian and Mick Foley. So by this we can see that the WWF can supply anything the fan wants. Personally I prefer the story lines, but just recently they seem to have died down from Huge Triple H and The Rock story lines down to the less important championship belts. But this Rock, Benoit, Kurt Angle and Triple H story line is heating up as we speak. But this will never be as good as the ones a few years ago with Kane and The Undertaker but they have of course changed recently. Who knows what’s in store foe fans of the WWF but we know that the WCW era is up and coming and will be a huge threat to WWF.

Now to move on to WCW, most people who have seen WCW and WWF would say that WWF is much better, they say that WWF has better fireworks and a better stage it makes the WCW set look tacky and cheap. But it’s not all about the money anymore. I’ve only been watching WCW for a short while but I have seen two blood baths and God knows how many people disappear, if the WWF were ever to do this again the crowd world go absolutely crazy and wild but anything else like this on a WCW broadcast the fans would class it as something normal. Another magical feature of WCW is the fantastic PPV sitpulations, for example at World war 3 there is three rings and the wrestlers can just brawl in any ring and at Road Wild it is outside, this has only been done occasionally in WWF at the odd Wrestle Mania or Summerslam so it has many things that the WWF could never dream of having again.

So the question is down to you, which programme do you prefer WWF or WCW remember each has it’s own advantages and disadvantages so the choice is yours…
