Results from the 2000 Liberty February Tournament

The Liberty February Tournament was held on 19 February 2000 at Liberty High School in Colorado Springs. It was an 8 round double Swiss event, i.e., each participant played White and Black against 4 different opponents chosen by Swiss System rules. The time control was G/15, and there was both a quick rated and a nonrated section. Larry Wutt organized the tournament on behalf of the Liberty High School Chess Club and Southern Colorado Chess. The directors were Ken Schwartz, Roy Heath, and Dean Brown.

With a score of 6.5 out of 8.0, Kenneth Dail won the $40 first prize in the 24 player quick rated section. Chris Clevenger, Istvan Hornyak, and Gregg Steadman each collected 6.0 points to share the $20 second prize. The $15 U1300/Unr prize went to Steve Sparks, who also scored 6.0 points.

In the 14 player nonrated section, Seth Allen took home the $35 first prize with a score of 7.5 out of 8.0. William Garcia captured 6.0 points to earn the $20 second prize.
