  • Elizabeth was crowned Queen of England
  • Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing scaled Mount Everest for the first time
  • Dark Star won the Kentucky Derby
  • Sonic Drive Ins first opened
  • Jersey Joe Walcott beat Rocky Marciano
  • Audrey Hepburn was Best Actress in Roman Holiday
  • William Holden was Best Actor in Stalag 17
  • Best Movie was From Here to Eternity
  • Notre Dame's John Lattner won the Heisman Trophy
  • Watson and Crick described DNA in the Double Helix
  • The Yankees won the World Series over the Brooklyn Dodgers
  • Miss Frontier was Carole Rees and Margy Hirsig was Lady in Waiting

The event begins at around 8:30 p.m. Saturday morning, there's a party to check out the first CFD parade.

Hello all -- thanks for stopping. In this fancy, frilly, gotta-have-a-gimmick world, even I can have a web page. This is sort of like a Christmas letter, except that you can read it the other 364 days.

For those of you who have thought I've fallen off the face of the earth, well, I haven't, I'm alive and well in Boulder, Colorado. I've been here for about 14 years. I arrived about when the Rockies came to town to play baseball.

Things have been going pretty well for me here. The outdoors are so accessible in Colorado. You can drive right up to the mountains, although I haven't had a chance to enjoy the outdoors much this summer, I still manage to put on the in-line skates and cruise around the Boulder Creek Trail or in Denver along the Platte, get up to Chautauqua Park for a hike now and again.

I must admit the skiing is better here. I get up on the slopes few times a season. Recently, I got the golf sticks out and have been hitting a few balls at the driving range. I've been golfing twice this season and hit the ball fairly well, considering the long layoff.

I moved here from Lander, Wyoming (population 7,000) and it's real nice to have more than one choice of movies. My parents and sister live up in Laramie, and I'm actually closer to Wyoming living in Colorado, than when I lived in Lander.

I've been consulting with businesses, particularly in regards to manufacturing and fund raising. I worked with a group in Mexico to develop a sustainable manufacturing program for clothing and accessory items. My business partner died a few years back and the project ended.

Personally, I've become a lot more reflective in my old age. I think I'm still grounded and have a good outlook on things. I had a chance recently to here one of those mind-body-spirit speakers, Joan Boryshenko. She's from Gold Hill. She reminded me about keeping the female and male sides of ourselves in balance.

I was taking in the sights and sounds of Japan, recently. To check out "What I did on my summer vacation", click on the Hiroshige block print on the right. This is an 1857 print depicting one of 100 famous views of Edo (Tokyo), "The Bridge Ohashi and Atake in Sudden Shower."
