Mother's Day Starts Good, Gets Better
By John Hewlett, EHS News
On a day made to honor mothers around the world, firefighters reeived the surprise of their life.
Between midnight Sunday and midnight Monday for each time zone celebrating Mother’s Day, fire departments and hospitals were temporarily out of business.
There were no clouds in the sky and no fires on the ground. Every driver on the road arrived home safely. Police didn’t have to pull anybody over to write tickets.
"Overall, Mother’s Day was a bust for emergency personnel, who were expecting more incidents than usual.
According to Chief Allan Culligan of the Depactor Fire Department, "The traffic was heavier than we thought, but we didn’t have to leave our families at the stations to respond to accidents anywhere. It was truly a blessing to be able to celebrate those who assured us of life."

New Fire Extinguisher Testing Underway In Labs
By John Hewlett, EHS News
As many firefighters are aware, current fire extinguishers hardly live up to the name extinguisher. Complaints range from volume to ease of use. It was these problems that caused firefighters Jim Nagle and Lloyd Groups of the Lone Pine Fire Department to brainstorm their latest invention: the water extinguisher.
Nagle, self-proclaimed inventor of the spray nozzle worked long hours with Groups, self-proclaimed creator of the hose to bring their new extinguisher off paper and into reality.
"It’s almost like carrying a fifteen gallon water tank on your back. Instead of having to unload five hundred feet of inch and three-quarter [hose] to hit the little single room fires, all it takes is two firefighters to carry the tank into the house," said Groups.
According to Nagle, "The extinguisher works on the Super Soaker theory. The nozzleman pumps and compresses air into the water tank, and releases the water using a trigger."
Lawyers from Larami, creator of the Super Soaker, are refusing to comment whether they are considering either legal action against production or full production rights.
