Dundalk’s title hopes took a slight nosedive when they could only manage a 1- 1 draw with Cobh Ramblers at Oriel Park in a game that the home side, had they taken even half the chances that fell their way, would surely have won. Cobh opened the scoring on the half hour when Dundalk’s keeper John Connolly allowed a Mark Clifford volley from the edge of the penalty area to spin out of his hands and over the goal line.
The former Cobh striker, Tony Izzi, squandered two golden chances for Dundalk before he made amends in lost time at the end of the first half when he beat Cobh goalkeeper, Derek Slattery, with an angled drive from about ten yards range for the equaliser.
Izzi was unlucky not to score again 10 minutes after the interval when his shot that had goalkeeper Slattery beaten was scrambled off the goal line by substitute, Tommy Butler.
