Another win for Athlone
A revitalised Athlone easily out-classed a disappointing Cobh Ramblers
in a one-sided contest at St Mel's Park.
The home side dominated throughout, but only had Alan Kelly's 26th
minute strike to show for their superiority. Kelly latched onto a Warren
Parkes' header to slide the ball under John Donegan.
Willie Byrne was denied a dramatic late equaliser when his 87th minute
header was cleared off the line by Jan Fitzell.
Athlone could even afford to spurn an injury time penalty when Fortune
smacked the spot kick off the post after Tommy Cregoe had been dismissed
for handling Stephen Mullen's goal-bound header.
