A goal
three minutes from the end by substitute, Michael Stapleton gave Cobh Ramblers
a 2 1 win over Monaghan United at Gortakeegan at the end of a game that
the home side hardly deserved to lose.
All
the scoring came in the second half. It was Cobh who scored first two minutes
into the second half when Paul Coughlan availed of a mistake by Justin
Gleeson to crack a powerful low drive well out of the reach of goalkeeper,
John Grace. But 12 minutes later, Monaghan got back on terms when Gary
Howlett picked up the ball as Andy Myler’s shot at goal was deflected to
him and he coolly chipped goalkeeper John Donegan in the Cobh goal.
