COBH RAMBLERS had to rely on late goals
from Willie Byrne and Paul Coughlan to take the full points from their
mid table clash with St. Francis at St. Colman’s Park on Saturday night.
Cobh took the lead two minutes from the
end of normal time when substitute Michael Stapleton’s free kick was volleyed
spectacularly to the back of the net by centre back Byrne.
With all hopes of promotion now just a
distant memory Cobh are playing only for pride and on Saturday night’s
performance this is a tactic working in their favour.
After their late opening goal Cobh went
in search of further glory and deep into injury time Paul Coughlan showed
great skill in driving the ball through a maze of defenders to secure the
full points.
