Home Farm teamwork telling factor
Home Farm Fingal chalked up only their second home win of the season when they beat a disappointing Cobh Ramblers side by two clear goals at Whitehall.
The main difference in the sides was in the team-work, for while Home Farm Fingal combined well, and played for each other, Cobh seemed to be relying on the individual ability of the hard-running striker, Paul Coughlan to get them in the goals, while in defence, central defenders John Murphy and Willie Byrne seemed to have been relying too much on the offside trap to keep them out of trouble at the back.
Home Farm sprung that offside trap for the opening goal after 23 minutes play, when Cathal O'Connor played a delightful through pass between the static Cobh central pair for Richard Foran to run onto and the big striker quickly slammed the ball hard and low past the advancing goalkeeper Donegan into the corner of the Ramblers net.
The game really ended as a contest 12 minutes into the second half when the home side scored their second goal. When Cobh failed to get the ball cleanly out of defence, Keith O'Brien put Anthony Duggan in possession out on the left from where he crossed low into the penalty area for the inrushing Foran to make contact and steer the ball well out of the reach of the hapless John Donegan in the Cobh goal.
