Cobh crush United
Having survived
an opening half full of Monaghan pressure, Cobh Ramblers emerged victorious
at Gortakeegan. Cobh had their 'keeper John Donegan to thank for earning
his wages in this game, especially in the first half.
Both Bobby Browne
and Andy Myler brought brilliant saves from Donegan during this period.
Much to the annoyance of the Mons supporters, United were punished for
not taking their chances when, just 1 minute short of 45 minutes, Donal
Golden scored against the run of play for Ramblers in a breakaway attack.
Deservedly, the
home side were level however going into the dressing room for half time,
with Andy Myler grabbing his third goal in the League two minutes into
injury time.
However, the Ramblers
turned on the style in the latter half. Just six minutes in, a Paul Coughlan
strike hit the back of the net via a deflection to put the Cork men back
in front.
They doubled that
lead soon afterwards when a stunning 35-yard-chip by Liam O' Connor caught
Eddie Van Boxtel of his line. O' Connor scored his second with 15 minutes
remaining. After Mark Clifford's effort cannoned off the woodwork, O' Connor
was on hand to turn the ball home.
This was Cobh's
first League win in six games.
