This used to be a Discordian, Pagan, Wiccan site, but there has been an unscheduled change in programming. Please make yourself comfortable for a few minutes...
While most religions are the same and teach similar virtues, they contradict each other on major issues. Discordianism may be the exception: the popular religions teach order and peace are good!
Will the real god please stand up! Is there one god or many? Is god like man, man part of god, or is god completely different from man? If you say many, you exclude billions of Christians, Jews, and Muslims. Who is man: is man god, god-like, able to become god, or completely different than god? You can choose only one!
These are a few of the reasons why religions are not, in the end, the same.
They aren't. Jesus said, "No one is good." Christians believe that everyone, even Christians who go to church, are sinful by nature.
Furthermore, if a Christian acts like he's good, he's being bad. The funny thing is he is demonstrating the sinful nature thing and giving a (half) point to Christianity.
Many people believe going to Heaven is like a see-saw. You are on one side, and the "average" person (you know --the guy with 2.3 kids) is on the other. If your bad works are less than his, you're in.
In truth you must be always meet the 100% goodness standard to get to Heaven or declare "spiritual bankruptcy." By declaring "spiritual bankrupcty," you acknowledge you cannot pay your spiritual shortcomings, and you ask someone to pay them for you.
Much harm has been committed by Christians in history and maybe in your own life. However, it's important to distingush between between people who are flawed and the authentic claims of Jesus Christ.
I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.
Jesus said people are bad, so don't judge him by their faults! Test his behavior instead.
This is true only in one way. Christianity has value only to sinners. If you don't believe you're a sinner, you would see no benefit in the forgiveness of your sins.
On the other hand, do you think you could overestimate yourself? Can you change the hair on your head? Can you add a single hour to your life?
