Lessons I Am Learning

As God leads me through a learning process, I record those lessons. He's called me to share those with you. Enjoy, apply, and God bless!

When God calls....
..

When God calls us in an area of service or to action, we have a responsibility in our response.
A great example is found in Jeremiah 42:1-6.  The captains of the forces came to Jeremiah and asked him to
"pray for us to the Lord your God, for all this remnant (since we are left but a few of many,  as you   can see),  that the Lord your God may show us the way in which we should walk and the thing we should do."

The first point I see here is that they were aware of their need, and came to someone who they knew could intercede for them.  They requested his prayers on their behalf.

Jeremiah seems to have immediately responded to their request by acknowledging their request and promising to pray for them.  He goes beyond that and also promises to let them know exactly whatever God reveals to them  regarding their request.

"I have heard.  Indeed, I will pray to the lord your God according to your words, and it shall be, that  whatever the Lord answers you, I will declare it to you.  I will keep nothing back from you."

The captains then make a commitment to Jeremiah,

"Let the Lord be a true and faithful witness between us, if we do not do according to everything which the  Lord your God sends us by you.  Whether it is pleasing or displeasing, we will obey the voice of the Lord  our God to whom we send you, that it may be well with us when we obey the voice of the Lord our God."

They made a commitment to  do whatever God lead them to do, whether or not it was something they wanted to do.

It's interesting to note that it was not an immediate answer for these seekers.

"And it happened after ten days that the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah."

So we need to be aware of the fact that we may have to wait for the answer to our requests.  This will certainly require some patience on our parts!

These, then are the lessons I have learned from this short passage:

  1. Become aware of the need in your life.
  2. Seek an intercessory prayer partner
  3. Request specific prayers on your behalf .
  4. Obtain from them   an acknowledgment  of your need,   a promise to pray on your behalf, and   a promise to let you know what God has revealed to them for you
  5. Ask to be held accountable to this prayer partner
  6. Determine to be obedient to God's message, even if it is not pleasing to you .
  7. Wait patiently for the Lord's leading .
  8. Follow specifically His directions for your life.  Specific requests will get specific answers.
