Catherine Welton Motter

Welcome!

I am a piano teacher and performer in the Denver metro area. My bachelor and master degrees in piano performance were earned at the University of Texas at Arlington and the University of Denver Lamont School of Music. Teachers have included Margaret Garner, Jo Garner Boatright (former assistant to the late Mme. Lili Kraus), Dr. David Stokan, and Theodore Lichtmann.

I have recorded a CD with Linda Combellic in September '99, Extase. The music is by Debussy, and the subject of the text of each piece has to do with some aspect of nature. For more information, go to Vocal Visions.

When I'm not involved in musical activities, I enjoy walking, camping, snowshoeing, reading, bowling, cooking, cross-stitch, and chickadees.

"When piped a tiny voice hard by,
Gay and polite, a cheerful cry,
Chic-chic-a-dee-dee! saucy note
Out of sound heart and merry throat."

...Ralph Waldo Emerson

My husband, Al J. Motter, Jr., is a vocalist/actor with a rich baritone voice. Having sung leads in many Broadway musicals, he has understudied Bert Parks in "The Music Man", and also sang the role of Lancelot in "Camelot" with Howard Keel as King Arthur, to name but a few. Locally Al heads up the La Scala Singers, who become the Dickens Carolers during the Christmas holiday season. They have sung many places, including Writers Square, Estes Park, and at private parties for the Colorado Rockies, Pete Coors, and the Georgetown Historical Society.

picture name Al is also involved in a four-year research program with the DPP, a study about preventing adult onset diabetes with a focus on lifestyle changes in diet and exercise.

Our son, Adam, is a graduate of Grandview High School. Musically talented, he sang with the Colorado Children's Chorale, had the lead in Menotti's Amahl and the Night Visitors, played a pretty great saxophone prior to getting braces, was cast as Lamar in the 1998 GHS musical, Godspell, and did an incredible job of being Fagin in Oliver and Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof. He was also cast in the leads for the school production of "Noises Off", and "Romeo and Juliet". Adam lettered in both Choir and Drama, was a member of Thespians, and received the faculty award of Renaissance Man for outstanding male of his graduating class. I will never forget the joy of accompanying him as he sang American Hymn at his graduation ceremony.

We also have two very special family pets Mollie and Cali, our precious West Highland White Terriers (Westies). They have to be the world's most wonderful dogs, enjoying walks, our students, chasing squirrels, playing tug-of-war with their toys, chasing tennis balls, and being loyal companions.
