HE DIED FIRST

He roams around the house
forgetting where he is
There's an aide who tries to help,
but she treats him like a kid
He wants to change it back,
to the way it used to be
When everything was simple,
and easy to see

His wife passed away,
over twenty years ago
Left him to face,
his remaining days alone
Every now and then,
he calls out her name
Hoping if and when she answers,
everything will be the same

He still can see her,
in the bedroom down the hall
Her laughter and her smile,
he can easily recall
He tries to talk to her,
but she doesnt say a word
He starts to wonder,
if maybe he died first

He can see she's doing fine,
by the look in her eyes
All of a sudden,
he starts to realize
Even though she's in heaven,
and he's here on earth
There's no doubt about it
He died first

There's a portrait still of her,
above the fireplace
He sometimes takes his fingers,
and touches her face
He starts to hear her voice
Some words she used to say
He closes his eyes
Lets time slip away

He still can see her,
in the bedroom down the hall
Her laughter and her smile,
he can easily recall
He tries to talk to her,
but she doesnt say a word
He starts to wonder,
if maybe he died first

He can see she's doing fine,
by the look in her eyes
All of a sudden,
he starts to realize
Even though she's in heaven,
and he's here on earth
There's no doubt about it
He died first

Theres no doubt about it
He died first
