DEAR DIARY

On the counter in the kitchen
Was her daughter's diary
And staring straight into her face
Was the latest entry

She trusted her daughter
They shared everything
But the mother in her heart
Began reading

"A long long time ago
When I was 8 yrs old
Just drifting off to sleep
I remember it was cold

The door was slightly open
When moms new man walked in
He came to kiss me goodnight
Then he let the lights dim

I closed my eyes tighter
And started to cry
He said to keep this secret
But he never told me why

Dear diary
You're the only one I trust
No one can find out
Keep this safe you must

I have no one to talk to
Nobody believes me
You're the only one who listens
Dear diary"

She couldn't stop the tears
From falling on the kitchen floor
Her daughter tried to tell her
But she always just ignored

It was several years at the time
Since her father passed away
And life was such a struggle
To make it through each day

Dear diary
You're the only one I trust
No one can find out
Keep this safe you must

I have no one to talk to
Nobody believes me
You're the only one who listens
Dear diary

You're the only one who listens
Dear diary
