paul kariya was the first hockey player who made me truly appreciate hockey and in a way, become addicted to the sport. i don't think i would've been able to even tolerate watching the sport if not for me first being fascinated with how he played and the amazing way he took to the puck out on the ice. my dear friend priscilla was the first one who told me about him, and ever since watching my first game with him in it, i couldn't get enough of hockey, period. paul kariya is still one of my all time favorite hockey players but he opened my eyes to what good hockey, what damn good hockey was.

i was given this (american) dollar bill by my hockey bud sally y on my 17th birthday or something near there. it's one of the coolest gifts i have ever gotten as a birthday present (next to the paul kariya doll i received last year but that's another story) and it still sits on top of my computer in my dorm room.

i used to have my walls strewn with posters of Paul Kariya and some with other Ducks as well but basically, it was all Paul on my walls! then i had to move. so i had to pack up most of my posters. it was a shame too because at one point, i had paul on every wall of my room. it was quite funny. aside from posters, i had lockers posters, laminated pics, newspaper cutouts and all this other fun paul kariya collectible stuff! luckily for me, Paul Kariya's already a superstar so it's not too hard finding his posters or other various items.

I got this from Sports Illustrated for Kids, it's Paul at age 6. Supposedly, his goalie pads (or lack of them) discouraged the poor boy from becoming a goalie. let's all give an amen.

i think the only thing that i was looking forward to most in the 1998 Winter Games was to be able to see Paul play in Japan and how he's interact with all the festivities around him (being of japanese descent). but somebody (Gary Suter, you must choke) had to take the poor guy out and basically handicapp him for the rest of the '97-'98 season
this is from a mini article in Time Magazine about him not being able to play in nagano... he seems to have a knack for dramatic poses, eh?

Here are some awards pictures of him that I think are especially spiffy...
not an award pic, but still spiffy

paul's many hobbies include juggling and he's even learned how to do that juggling thing where you juggle a bunch of apples and take a bite out of one while juggling... can you say multi-talented? i know i sure can. hehe.
This is from some article in Sports Illustrated... He's juggling in front of the big televisions inside the Arrowhead Pond... I know the picture looks bad but my scanner isn't too fond of me, i apologize.

I got this off someone's website... it's by far one of my favorite posed pictures of him even though it's black and white...

This pic is taken from one that my friend Yaeko took. The only thing I have to say about the pic is... couldn't he have smiled at least??
