05-MAY-99: A few days ago I sent an e-mail to the actor James DuMont.
OCCUPATION: Actor
AGE: 33
MOVIE: Bellyfruit
WHEN DID YOU DECIDE TO BECOME AN ACTOR?
TELL US ABOUT YOUR ROLE IN "BELLYFRUIT".
HOW WAS THE ATMOSPHERE AROUND THE SET DURING THE FILMING DAYS?
HOW WAS IT TO WORK WITH KERRI?
DID YOU KNOW ABOUT HER BEFORE "BELLYFRUIT"?
WHY DO YOU THINK PEOPLE SHOULD SEE "BELLYFRUIT"?
WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS FOR THE FUTURE?
I asked him
if I could do an interview with him about Kerri's movie "Bellyfruit"
and he said yes. So here folks,
only on The Unofficial Kerri Green Page,
James DuMonts words about "Bellyfruit" and Kerri Lee Green.
NAME: James DuMont
I was a teen actor in Chicago, back in the 80's. I decided to become an actor earlier, but got serious about it in my teens.
My character is Lou. He dates a women in the film, whose daughter has a child
while in her teens. I get caught in the middle between the women I am dating
and her daughter, who refuses to take full responsibility for her new born
child. She steals money from me for drugs and going out, while leaving the baby
all alone at home. I try to be a father to her, in my own way, but she chooses
to leave for the streets with her child.
This film is a low budget film, which means alot of people work VERY hard for
VERY little money. They are into it for the love of the project or to get
experience. It's very different than a larger budget film, as the power trips
are less. It's was a very good experience, very supportive, no room for
arrogence or laziness. I prefer this type of set.
She was a dream, very calm and focused. She has a great way of making you feel at ease. An actors director, she's been there, she knows. A joy.
I knew Of her through a friend, Garrett Brown (Sisters), who was in Lucas and
Jeremy Piven, (Ellen) who I went to High School with and was in that same film.
It's a movie that is about something. Here's a little known fact, 30,000 babies
are born to teenaged mothers in California alone, 81 % of them are born into
poverty. This is EVERYONE'S issue. These children are our future. The movie
is based on true stories.
That's reason enough, but the film also entertains and doesn't hit you over the
head with it's message. People have left saying "This film NEEDS to be seen" I
think that is the kind of movie I know I like.
I have a feature film, which is being developed and financed by producers, which
I will produce and co-star. I am also developing a one man show, which I
workshopped a few months ago. I have a few indy features out there waiting to
get distribution. My short film, The Confession (1996), which I produced and
starred in is currently on Film Four in London & Ireland and available at
www.bigfilmshorts.com.
AND LAST, WHAT DO YOU WISH FOR OF ALL THINGS RIGHT NOW?
World Peace on a one to one level. Be kinder to each other and treat each other
with mutual respect, for our own sake, but mostly for those after us.
