Founded in December 1981, Kincardine Cross Country Ski Club is a small local club that provides enjoyable skiing to residents of the area. Our club has close to 100 members. We were incorporated as a club in 1991. We are probably located closer to the town we serve than any other club in Ontario we are literally a 5 minute drive from the town.
And our trail fees and annual membership are the lowest in Ontario.
Trail fees for one day are: individual $3 - a family $5.
Annual Club Membership: individual $25 a family $40.
We work on an honour system: please put your payment in the locked metal box at the trail head. For annual membership, contact the treasurer, Karel Mika (see contact page).
At some of the high-end cross-country ski facilities you pay as much for a one day pass at weekends as our annual fee!
Parking at Stoney Island is free.
Our trails are at Stoney Island Conservation Area (property of the Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority) on County Road 23, four kilometres north of Kincardine. This is a beautiful 50 acre property stretching down to a stunning shoreline along Lake Huron. Half way down the property is the Lake Algonquin shoreline formed about 10,000 years ago at the end of the last Ice Age that provides us with our hills. We have a total of 6 kilometres of ski trails and 5 kilometres of snowshoe trails (the two systems are separate). There is a parking lot for 20 cars at the trail head, and a club hut we use occasionally.
Our trails are set for skating and classical skiing. Volunters groom the trails regularly. We have recently acquired a Tidd Tech trail tenderizer which creates an excellent skating trail when the snow is good. We also track-set for classical skiing.
We have collected a number of skis, poles and ski-boots which are kept in the Club hut which may be borrowed if you dont yet have your own equipment (but please return). Donations of ski boots and poles are always welcome.
