TEXAS RANGERS BASEBALL. GOTTA LOVE IT!!!

Rangers Off To Strong Start

The Texas Rangers have once again began their climb to the top of the American League West. The Rangers began the year with a three game series against former Ranger, Dean Palmer and the Detroit Tigers. For the most part the Rangers looked as if they still are the team to beat in the West. Rick Helling had a rough go of things in the opener taking an 11 to 5 loss, but Aaron Sele (left) followed with a strong performance in game two of the series. Sele totally shut down the Tigers through seven innings, allowing 0 runs on 6 hits and striking out 6. He also only allowed one walk during that span. In game three, Mike Morgan set a Major League record by winning a game with his tenth different team. The Rangers open a four game set with the Angels tonight at the Ballpark at Arlington before going on a two week road trip that will cover Seattle, Oakland, New York and Minnesota. This will be a great time to make a statement to both the AL West and the defending world champions.

Player Of The Week.

Is there any question who the Player of the Week is going to be for the first week of 1999. The Rangers third baseman Todd Zeile (left) is the obvious choice. During the first week of the 1999 campaign, Zeile has shown the promise that brought him here, right at the trading dealine last July. What has Zeile done that is so great you ask? How about collecting seven hits in fifteen at-bats in the first week. That calculates to a .467 batting average. Also, of those seven hits, he smacked three doubles and a home run off the Angels' Chuck Finley. Not to mention that he drew two walks and scored three runs. Zeile also played nearly perfect defense, with the exception of one questionable error that was smashed to his left and went off the tip of the glove. Todd Zeile is starting to show Ranger fans the type of player he really is. All this is why Todd Zeile is this week's Player of the Week.
