Wassail 2012

Is scheduled for Sunday 15th January 2012 at Garden Organic Ryton

Following the same plan as 2011 we will start at Garden Organic Ryton at about 11:00 a.m
There we will do some dancing before wassailing the tree at about 12:30 p.m
Then we will repair to the Rosey Combe Public House in Binley Woods to socialize and do some further dancing

Elephant Up a Pole
Formed in 1989

Elephant are a Border Morris side, dancing in rag tailcoats and with blacked up faces.

Border morris is a style of morris dancing from the Welsh Marches. it was originally a winter tradition, danced by men who were unemployed due to the seasonal lack of work. They danced in disguise to beg for beer money

On the weekend closest to Old Twelfth Night (17th January) we invite other morris sides to join us wassailing an apple tree on the Sunday at Ryton Organic Gardens .

Following some years of decreasing numbers, we are now only active for a few months leading up to the Wassail, but if anyone is interested in our style of border morris, we may be able to provide some help to find active sides or pass on details of our dances.
