About the school

The old school entrance from the car park

We aim to create a caring and stable environment where pupils may develop confidence and independence and an awareness of the needs of others. This is to be achieved if all children, staff and parents are aware of the consequences of their own actions. Working together we can help and support each other to achieve our mission statement:-

" Everyone cares, learns and celebrates success together."

Barker's Lane School is situated on the outskirts of Wrexham and was completely remodeled over the period of November 2002 to September 2003. On completion there are now two newly built large Infant classrooms with separate cloakroom and practical areas; a self contained Early Years unit also with separate facilities and two playgrounds (one hard and one soft paly); four junior classrooms and a shared practical area with a 16 pupil computer suite; two separate libraries; an enlarged hall (so that we may welcome more parents to services and assemblies); excellent enlarged play space including a multi use games area retaining our two football pitches and running track. We have to created an outdoor classroom and recreational area with a French Boules pitch on the site left by the mobile. In addition to the newly built office and reception area we have a separate room available for meetings and elections.

At the bottom of the school field is an enclosed environmental area which will be renovated during the winter ready for next spring.

The school is seen as a focal point for the community .We have a pre-school playgroup which does excellent work for our children sited in Borras Church and a thriving after school club. We have wonderful support from the community including St John's Rhosnesni, the Salvation Army and Borras Church.

The school was last inspected in November 1997 and is due to be re-inspected by ESTYN in November 2003. Staff and Governors were delighted with the success of a very positive report last time praising the children's achievements both academic and cultural and we know that we have worked tirelessly to keep up the high standards during difficult circumstances with limited facilities.

About the website

The original school website was created by Daffyd Thomas when he was a student at NEWI as part of his work experience programme. He shared his expertise with our staff and pupils and we have been able to further develop the site over the years. Originally many photographs were used but because of some negative aspects to photographs on the web more emphasis is now being placed on work submitted by the pupils. This is an exciting area of development. The original website can still be seen by clicking here. A sample of the previous news pages can be seen here.
