The Goal: To increase the
performance and durability of the TM XM177E2 AEG to that
of the TM M4 AEG....on a budget. My
goal is also to provide Airsoft enthusiasts with hard data for
some of the popular performance modifications available. Results
from each modification will be charted so that increases can
easily be followed. In some cases photos or diagrams will be
used to illustrate some difficult aspects of some custom modifications.
Power:
Final velocity expectations
will be 340-360fps. In stock form the gun fires at 280fps
and the legal limit for indoor games here is 380fps,
so exceeding this is not desired. Accuracy: Final
accuracy expectations are 50-55ft. The XM, while longer
than a MP5 is still considered a relatively short gun. Our goal
is simply to get maximum accuracy for this barrel length. Rate of Fire: I
have always been happy with the XM's ROF and will try to keep
it as close to the stock 750rpm as possible. Reliability:
In no way do I want to sacrifice
the 100% reliability of the gun. Some modifications may require
more frequent cleaning/lubing of the gun but any modification
causing unreliability will be removed and noted as unreliable. Durability:
Another aspect of this project is to replace as many plastic
parts with metal. The XM has a disappointingly high content
of plastic, making it vulnerable to impact. Final durability
expectations will be as close to the real steel as possible.
Due to the high metal content, weight gains are expected.
Please
note: Some of the modifications
require some electrical or mechanical knowledge. I will include
a difficulty level as a guide to these modifications. I will
in no way be responsible for anybody messing up their gun.
