This map shows the forced migrations of the Lenape or Delaware people from their eastern homeland (marked in red) to Oklahoma. Their original homeland was all of New Jersey, eastern Pennsylvania, northern Delaware, and southeastern New York.
The Delawares had to move many times to avoid the onslaught of the settlers coming from the east. When they moved to each new place they were told that was to be their home from now on, but after a few years they had to move again. Each move and resettlement is indicated by a small bark house where they lived for a period of time. The larger the image of the bark house the longer they lived in that area.
