The Big Red ButtonHello, and welcome to the first of many rants. I wonder how many of you will read this. But anyway... this is my objection to the world as we know it.
It's 2005. Five years into the 21st century, and still we're all as fucked as we ever were. God bless us, when we take an arsenal of 7,500 thermonuclear weapons, linked to a big red button, and give it to a money-crazed Texan oil baron, along with a GDP of around 11.75 trillion dollars. God almighty, y'all... what the hell did you expect good ol' George to do? You know the American thing for never leaving a task unfinished (unless it requires effort...), so of course George Jr. was going to go and finish what his dad started: destroy terrorism in the Middle-East - particularly Iraq. And if America "inherits" Iraq's oil reserves, well, that's just fine and dandy. The fact that the US military actions have exarcerbated the region's already numerous problems is, of course, something that Bush would rush to cover up, but you can't hide it from the intrepid frontiersman of t'Internet. Fuck you, Bush!
And let's not even start on Bush's other, rather numerous cock-up. The USA PATRIOT act, for example. Now there is a "liberal" interpretation of the US Constitution, which the Americans seem to value so highly. The fact that Bush's lapdog, Mr. Blair, seems to be edging towards a comparable piece of legislation in the form of the Terrorism Act in the UK is also a cause for concern. But hey, where George goes, Tony follows.
You ever wonder why Great Britain still has troops sitting around Germany? Well, it ain't because of any security threat. Or, as some civil servants would claim, because there is no accommodation for the 25,000 British military personnel currently based in Germany. It's because, if Britain pulls out of Germany, then guess which is the only NATO country with troops still based on foreign soil?
Yup, dear reader, you guessed it. The United States of America.
Next up today - the Constitution of the United States. Your kids learn it as the basic doctrine of all democracy, yet you still allow convicted murderers to escape on technicalities drawn from blatant loopholes (
*cough* "I plead the Fifth Amendment, your honour."), and you still manipulate it to suit some fascist President's whim. It's hypocrisy. America isn't a free country. America is not democratic. Your idea of democracy, my dear American friends, is rather twisted. When you have people wanting to suppress even the music you listen to, when you have your armed forces personnel abusing prisoners on foreign soil, and when you find yourself the most-hated nation in the world, that's not democracy.
America is a corrupt nation. America betrays nine out of ten of democracy's founding principles. Just because you say it, just because you claim to believe it, just because you look at a flag and utter the same words in school every morning... this doesn't make you democratic. America is a country full of bigotry, uneducated about anything outside of your city limits, and scared to the point of prejudice of anything that opposes your way of life. Communism, for example.
Democracy is dead, my friends. Give it up.
Named and shamed today - George Walker Bush, Jr. - terrorist, imperialist, capitalist... we, the people, hate you.
Sincerely,
The Voice
