Sparrow, previously the captain of the ship, seeks retribution for the mutiny of his first mate, Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush). Difficulties arise as the entire crew of the Black Pearl has been cursed with an affliction barring them from death until they have appeased an angry Aztec God with pirated gold and . . .a secret ingredient. Sparrow's main objective is thwarted by the actions of two lovers, the Governor's Daughter, Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightly) and the local blacksmith, Will Turner (Orlando Bloom). Their love transcends social restrictions, yet Swann is goaded by her father (Johnathan Pryce) to marry a high ranking military official, Norrington (Jack Davenport). Soon after Sparrow arrives at Port Royal, the Black Pearl wreaks havoc on the tiny island community, in the process imprisoning Swann. Thus begins a series of captures in which the aid of Sparrow is necessary. Swann and Turner can't be sure whether Sparrow is a friend or foe. After all, he was the captain of the Black Pearl. Does he really wish to help them or is it only his ship after which he lusts? Back |
