For years a secluded mansion and its grounds have been the site of top-secret biotechnic experiments. The research staff has been funded by a respected corporation named Umbrella. The weekly laboratory reports have been increasingly vague and now they have stopped completely. Recent gory attacks near the mansion have lead to rumors of unnatural canines on the prowl. Something has gone terribly wrong. Two S.T.A.R.S. teams (Special Tactics and Rescue Squad) are sent to investigate these strange and gruesome developments. Bravo Team mobilizes first and disappears almost immediately. Alpha Team follows, urgently driven towards the mansion.Inside everything is quiet....

-Chris Redfield-
After being kicked out of the Air Force, Chris became a drifter until he met Barry Burton. Barry recruited him for the newly formed S.T.A.R.S. Now Chris has been reassigned to a smaller unit at Raccoon City headquarters to prove himself quickly. A tough guy who possesses both strong mental skills and great vitality, Chris has a great advantage with weapons when surrounded by many enemies



-Jill Valentine-

An intelligent soldier that has rescued many S.T.A.R.S. members from danger in the past, Jill has been reassigned to Raccoon City just like Chris. She is excellent at using special mechanical devices like lockpicks, thus dubbed by Barry as "the Master of Unlocking" (one of Barry's cheesier lines). Jill has strong moral convictions and fights for what she believes in.



-Barry Burton-
Chris Redfield's old friend and partner. Former SWAT team member, Barry maintains and supplies weapons for all S.T.A.R.S. members. With over 16 years of experience, he has lead many projects to success. Barry always seems to show up at just the right times to save Jill's butt.

-Albert Wesker-
Wesker has risen quickly inside the S.T.A.R.S. Organization and currently leads the Alpha Team. Viewed by many as a "cool guy", from his snappy haircut to his perpetual shades, Wesker was recruited by a headhunter for his sharp insight and eventually founded the S.T.A.R.S. unit in Raccoon City. Wesker is not seen much once they split up in the mansion.
-The Second Leak-



The story begins about a month and a half after the disaster at the mansion lab. Umbrella Corp develops the T-virus, a muta-genic toxin for the use in biological weapons. After breaking loose, living things mutate into all sorts of decaying creatures. The case was eventually closed, but Umbrella's experience was far from over. Now it's the worst possible nightmare: a new virus runs rampant. All of Raccoon City is infested. Blood-thirsty zombies, hideous mutations now overwhelm the community.

-Clair Redfield-

The younger sister of Chris Redfield, Claire is a light-hearted, articulate modern woman. While she can be a bit of a tomboy at times, she is somewhat wild. Self-confident and extroverted, Claire is typically the first person to try something many others would not.



-Leon Scott Kennedy-

Leon is an idealistic rookie cop. He burns with the need to protect and to serve. His life as a cadet was an eye-opening experience. While reckless and brash, Leon is certainly not as naive as his demeanor would suggest. Leon arrives in Raccoon City for his first day on the job and his first unofficial mission could be his last.




-Ada Wong-

Leon stumbles upon this mysterious woman who is quite secretive yet, at the same time, a professional and skilled investigator. She can also come across as condescending, and has a tendency to talk down to those she deems inferior to herself. As you play the game you will find that Ada is searching for something other than her lost boyfriend.


-Sherry Birkin-
A lonely and insecure 12-year old, Sherry is quite mature for her age. She is very shy and when she speaks, she lacks self-confidence and always has the feeling she is lost. Sherry's parents are too wrapped up in their work at Umbrella Corp to heed the emotional needs of their child.


-William Birkin-

Birkin is one of the lead scientists for Umbrella Corp, and creator of the G-Virus, a modified version of the T-Virus toxin from Resident Evil 1. William injects himself with the virus when Umbrella agents raid his laboratory to take the virus from him. He then mutates into a Tyrant-like creature and wreaks havoc for all he encounters.



-Mr.X-

This version of Tyrant was created by Umbrella with the sole purpose of securing the G-Virus, and destroying anything and everything that gets in his way. Mr. X moves slowly, when he appears he will just walk towards you. But don't let him get a hold of you. You will face off with this creature many times in Mission 2. At the final battle scene he mutates into a much faster version of the Tyrant, thus becoming one of the toughest enemies to beat in the entire Resident Evil series.
