This site contains various programs which I have made over the years for various devices.  You will notice newer programs such as those found on PalmGear have decent instructions.  Many of my older programs do not.  Most of these old programs were made primarily for myself, but might be worth sharing.  As of today (5/11/05) I will be getting more of my software listed, likely without instructions.  I hope to be energetic enough to add instructions in the future.

Feel free to ask any questions via the email shown in "Contact Us", although I may not have working knowledge of older programs, or the time to examine them.  With newer programs I'll likely even take feature requests.  Just keep in mind that my "day" job sometimes keeps me occupied for weeks rather than days.

1/30/08 - If a program produces an error when attempting to launch, such as missing a required DLL, contact me and I can make a full install.  I have not done this for any of the programs because it is usually unnecessary.  Most people have the shared libraries installed on their machines already.

The following program was designed for Fossil's WristPDA. It's primary purpose is to prevent the backlight from automatically turning off after 10 seconds of inactivity as is the only built in option at this time.

Downloader enables you to download files from the internet to your memory card. It is good for getting pictures off of web pages and onto the Treo 600, which there was previously no method to accomplish.

PortaPodder is my answer to everything.  Of course, it's just a podcatcher for Palm, but it has changed the way I do mobile entertainment.  You simply wake up in the morning, that's how you get new content stored on your mobile MP3 player (Palm).  It was based on Downloader technology, but is MUCH faster.  It should be noted that it functions with PocketTunes and is used in lieu of AudioBookLoader for podcasting.  (ABL has an AeroPlayer playlist swap dedicated to podcasts, but PortaPodder's management is far superior for podcasting.)  Get the trial from your favorite site and read the readme.

The following zip file contains all the compatible Java Midlets I could find for the i95cl Nextel phone.  All programs are provided free, as shared files from my archives.  If you are the developer of a particular program and do not wish it to be included in this site, email me, and it will be removed.  I do not track where each program came from, or investigate possible piracy.  If you have a program that is not in this archive and wish it to be included, then I will be happy to add it.

Due to time restrictions, and limited interest, the i90c file has been removed.  A vast majority of the i95cl programs will function on an i90c.  The picture of the i90c (which started it all for me) will remain above for your viewing pleasure.

NickTech Original - EventLog

This program is not included in the zip file above because the PC software that comes with it makes it quite bulky.  I created this midlet with very little knowledge of J2ME or even Java for that matter.  However, I've been using it with little trouble for quite some time.  Please read the instruction manual thoroughly before asking questions. The instruction manual is available separately below, and is included in the zip file.  What is EventLog?  The best answer to that is in the Instruction Manual below.

Put Pathcopy.exe on your desktop, and drop files onto it.  The full path of the file is copied to your clipboard, which means you can paste into any dialogue which is asking for the location of the file.

AudioBookLoader v1.0.5- Formerly Thumper.  Play large sequential playlists easily on your small flash device.

This software went through many phases, and is now "AudioBookLoader".  It was originally software for the Oakley Thump, and still provides functionality for it that no other program does. (As of 12/6/05.)

There are no instructions, but the program should be moderately simple to operate.

The most important thing to know is that it has currently only been tested with:

Windows XP Home SP2
Oakley Thump 256 - Firmware Version 1.031
Palm AeroPlayer - Version 5.5
Palm AeroPlayer - Version 5.2

I'm especially interested in feedback on whether or not it functions on other Thump (128, 512, Thump 2) or other operating systems.  The context menu functions are the most likely to fail on other operating systems (M3U and Split functions).  Please provide feedback, and I can try to correct any problems.

Also, the donation link is my version of going commercial with this program.  I wrote the software, because I wanted it.  I don't need a manual, I don't need it to work with a Shuffle, Muvo, Win2K, etc.  However, if there are things you want, I'm hoping you will help make them happen. Some suggested donations are: $5, $7, $10, $110,872.99

Finally, you will notice in the About box that it works with Palm.  The AudioBookLoader.prc file included in the zip is needed for this purpose, but is not necessary to run the software on your PC.

Contact me via the email addy in the"Contact Us" section of this site.

Pinger is a nifty little program that continually pings an IP to keep your connection active and display your connection's status.  Amazingly enough, it appears I wrote a readme for this program.

6/6/06 - v1.1 Released.  Now you can hear your internet status.

RandomSong is a simple MP3 transfer program designed to make life with a flash based MP3 player much easier.  Sure your 40GB HDD player can hold your whole collection, but selecting a variety for your 1G flash player can be tedious work.  RandomSong randomly selects a song from your main archive, and starts playing it a specified point in the song (i.e. 60 sec.).  You then simply select "Yes", "No", or "Never".  "Yes" will copy the song to your flash player, and play the next.  "No" will play the next.  "Never" will mark the song not to be selected again in the future.  There is also a "Yes to All" button designed to allow you to automatically fill a flash player with random songs.

1/9/06 - Registry files for context menu functions removed.  Use AudioBookLoader above to provide much better context menu functions.

No instructions, but hovering over something may help.

GridPoker is a one player poker game in which you place cards in a 5 x 5 grid, attempting to get good hands accross and down.  This is a DOS game I created in high school.

Have you ever downloaded a .TXT file and found it barely legible due to line feeds being changed to squares in Notepad?  Try dropping the file on this FixTXT.exe program.  A file should be created in the same folder as the original file, but with a "C" before the .TXT in the file name.  This new file should read properly in Windows applications.

One of my more powerful programs is a keystroke logger that can respond to keys as desired.  This program was built originally as a remote control assistance program for my Toshiba laptop (shown above).  It grew.  As with all my software, documentation is not elaborate, but it should be understandable to slightly advanced users.

1/1/08 - This program is no longer on the site because the keyhook library was apparently also used by a virus, and now a part of the program is tagged as a virus and cannot be hosted or even run where some AV programs are considered.  (My program was not a virus in case you were wondering).

Gen5 is a collection of programs that were missing from your computer.  They do simple things such as open the CD drawer, change the volume, and tell a computer on the network to run a program.  They can be used with windows shotrcuts and shortcut keys for quick access to these features, or by programmers not wishing to mess with complicated API's.  If you can think of any other computer functions that should have their own command line program let me know.

This is a level editor for JShape's Ring Fantasy.  You're really only going to be able to use this one if you understand the composition of Jad/Jar files, have jad/jar files for the game, have a whole bunch of time, have a passion for RPG's on your phone, etc.  There are virtually no instructions, but understanding the game engine is much more complicated than understanding my editor.  Read the key.txt file included to begin your understanding of the engine.

The following is an Access database, which requires Microsoft Access 2000 (or higher?).  This is a great backup program that builds batch files to backup files that need it.  It is based on DOS xcopy.exe and the archive bit present on all files.  I also did not take the time to idiot proof the program.  The batch files it makes are sound but you might get errors if you do things out of sequence in the database.

3/23/03 - Starting with this new version I am leaving all my data in the database.  You will probably not be able to build useful batch files with the data I have left inside, but it serves as a good example.  Simply create new profiles and leave mine alone, or delete them if you don't need the examples.

There is a program built right into my site.  This programs serves as the ultimate home page to begin your internet journeys.  It provides such a service by reading the root of your favorites directory, and placing your favorites as links inside a web page.  Why?  If you open your favorites folder directly, Explorer does not show all the Internet functions it does when you open a web page.  Secondly, my program also places an "n" next to each link, that allows you to open them in a new window.  So you can quickly open multiple pages and access the first while the rest are opening.  In general I have found it to be faster and more convenient than any other homepage system.

12/1/05 - This program is in danger of malfunction due to issues with my domain registrar.  If it stops working, just know that I'm trying to get it straightened out.

1/9/06 - Yep, it is pretty much toast.  It still exists, but it is on Angelfire now, and that makes it pretty worthless.  Read the new instructions if you still want to use it with all the ads.

I know this site design is strange and maybe annoying in some ways.  (Tell me what you think.)  The following are theories used in the development of this site, and the benefits of each.

Your Favorite Homepage Set-Up

Where is it?  http://www.angelfire.com/clone/nicktech/home.htm

How to set it up:

  1. First you must add "http://www.angelfire.com" to your "Trusted" list in Internet Explorer's security settings.  Why?  Because you need to allow my program to be able to read your favorites directory.  (WARNING:  This is no longer advisable unless you do not surf any other Angelfire.com sites.  Before the page had its own NickTech domain, but those glory days are over.)
  2. You should customize the security settings for the "Trusted" zone to Enable "Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe" (or equivalent).  If you don't change this setting from its initial "Prompt" state to "Enable", you will get a message asking whether or not you want to let my program run every time you open the page.
  3. Now that you are all set up, all you have to do is type in the URL.  The URL is http://www.angelfire.com/clone/nicktech/home.htm?<your favorites directory>.  For example my favorites directory is: C:\Documents and Settings\Default\Favorites, so I use the URL: http://www.angelfire.com/clone/nicktech/home.htm?C:\Documents and Settings\Default\Favorites

Don't worry if your browser changes the URL after you press Enter. URL's can't have spaces, and it likes putting another slash after the .com for some reason.

You can go ahead and try to view http://www.angelfire.com/clone/nicktech/home.htm without adjusting your browser settings and it will give you the error message:  "You must 'Trust' this page, and enable no-prompt ActiveX controls." (See step #1 above)

If you get the message: "HomePage users: Error-Favorites Directory" then there is something wrong with the favorites directory path you added (or didn't) to the URL. (See step #3 above)
