I really need to update and put all my web note stuff here. *sigh*

[26 Oct. 2002] Now I am! I’ll try to make separate pages for each topic above once they’re crowding this page. Notice my little separators. We’ve been Quake-deprived for sooo long…L

[24 Nov., 2002]Got something new on the Stoopid RemindersSectionon the WMP11

Our WRT54G with latest firmware 1.02 are fully tested with MSN Messenger 5. Linksys is schedule to go through UPnP Certification very soon.

WRT54G firmware version v 1.02.1
WRT54G WAN connection type: PPPoE
Internet MSN client: WinXP with static IP
LAN side MSN client: WinXP with DHCP

From the Stings Archive:

My Fellows;

I recently received numerous product issues from Tech Support about inability to connect to the internet via WRT54G from Internet Explorer browser.
After a lengthy investigation, we have found culprit of the problem: IE 6.1 (Service Pack 1). Fix available via IE upgrade.
It has nothing to do with WRT54G and its recent release firmware 1.02. Please suggest our Tech Specialists not to advise customers to return or RMA routers.

SYMPTOMS

You may experience any of the following symptoms:

When you try to access your MSN e-mail account, you may receive the following error message:

The page cannot be displayed

The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings...
Cannot find server or DNS Error

You cannot successfully authenticate with a Web site in various programs (for example, Windows Media Player). For example, you may be prompted for your user name and your password several times, and you may receive the error message that is described in this section or an other error message from the Web site that indicates that you cannot access even after you type the correct user name and password

CAUSE

This problem may occur if your program uses the IAuthenticate interface to authenticate with the Web site and you access the Internet through a proxy server that also requires authentication. For additional information about this issue, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Mac Notes

When upgrading WRT54G with MacTFTP:
Cut down the *.bin filename. Mac ain't too friendly with them

The Screensavers TV show did a segment yesterday on how to make our cards work on Mac using Mac Airport Extreme drivers even on Macs that apples products don't work on!

Only downside is they need to but at least 1 Apple card or Base station to get the drivers

Here's the info

http://www.techtv.com/screensavers/macintosh/story/0,24330,3419782,00.html

When you really don't know how to get the card's MAC Address from a Mac--yes, pun intended--just go to this page. This shows you how to get the MAC Address off from OS 9.1

Upgrading firmware on a Mac? This was found from MacTechnologies

MacTFTP Client Instructions

All the relevant controls for initiating a transfer are in the TFTP window. You can create a new TFTP window by choosing "New" from the File menu.

The TFTP protocol allows you to initiate either a Send or Receive with the TFTP server. Choose the appropriate option.

The "Address" field allows you to enter the name or address of the TFTP server.

The "Password" field is optional. Some systems require and will use a password. Others won't. Note that a password is not part of the TFTP standard and will most likely be ignored by most servers.

If you are sending, the "File" button will allow you to choose the file. You can also drag-and-drop the file onto the window or onto the MacTFTP Client icon.

If you are receiving, the "File" button will allow you to name the file you wish to receive and tell MacTFTP Client where you want to place it. Note that this step does not create any file until you actually initiate the transfer.

Certain systems may require a Text transfer rather than the default Binary transfer. You can switch this setting in the Options menu. Note that no conversion actually takes place. The transfer is identical as far as MacTFTP Client is concerned. The setting is simply meant to fool the TFTP server into thinking it is a text transfer.

When all the settings above are correct, press the "Start" button to begin the transfer. You can stop the transfer at any time by pressing "Abort".

You can initiate multiple transfers simultaneously to the same server or a different server. Choose "New" from the File menu to open another TFTP window and fill in the settings as above.

Be sure to check Balloon Help for more help. Choose "Show Balloons" from the Help menu.

To update a Linksys Router using MacTFTP Client
Please note MacTechnologies is not affiliated with LinkSys. For support with a LinkSys product, please go to the LinkSys Web Site.

1) Download the firmware file from LinkSys' site. You can click here to search for the latest update on VersionTracker.

2) If needed, change the last three letters of the downloaded file from "exe" to "zip".

3) Drop the file onto StuffIt Expander. Note: You must have the newest
versions of StuffIt Expander and DropStuff, both available from
http://www.aladdinsys.com/

4) Once the file is decompressed, you will have a folder. Inside that folder
is a file called "code.BIN". This is the firmware file.

5) Press the reset button on the front of the router with a paper clip for ten seconds.
Start MacTFTP Client. For the address, put in "192.168.1.1". Enter your password in the password field. If that password doesn't work, use the default password, "admin". For the file, select or drop the "code.BIN" file.

6) Start the transfer. It should go through without a hitch and should last
less than thirty seconds.

7) Press the reset button on the router.

8) You may have to reset the settings in your router, including the password, as per the Linksys manual.

Modem Alert!!

Allied Data CJ8MO E-U (from People PC) has modem IP of 192.168.1.1! It also uses a crossover cable going into the WAN port of the router. (24 Oct. `02)

For Speedstream models of modem from SouthWestern Bell!

Ask the client for a firmware upgrade on the modem. Have them contact their Internet Service Provider about it.

Speedstream modems from the TDS ISP.

They're coded with an IP of 10.0.0.1, so our router would have to have an IP range of 2 to 14. It also has no DHCP capability.

Westell Modems need to be enabled on Bridge Mode for PPPoE to make it work, with DHCP disabled.

Note to self: If you encounter installation problems that has something to do with a missing secur32.dll file, and you couldn't find it anywhere, it could be a virus on their system. Be aware, innocent little tech-head!!

Here's how to use System File Checker:

1- Click Start , point to Programs , point to Accessories , point to System Tools , click System Information , and then click System File Checker on the Tools menu.

Click one of the following options:

Scan For Altered Files
Extract One File From Installation Disk

NOTE : If you click Extract One File From Installation Disk , you can specify the file you want to extract.

Click Settings , choose the configuration you want to use in System File Checker Settings , click OK , and then click Start .

After pinging a remote site, if you encounter a message that says:

Ping: transmit failed, error code 65

Check out the article on Microsoft's Support Page on what to do.

You can set DHCP capability (meaning assigning IP or not) on the WMP11 under the Profiles.

BroadJump is also a PPPoE software. Just like EnterNet300 and WinPoet

on a side note.....
Never EVER look at your pay slip while engaged in a call. Believe me...

Read your Wireless Survival Guide more often!

Like for BEFSR41W and WPC11 v 3. The router ought to be upgraded to v. 11 r 14 to make them two work.

Using two wap11 as a repeater or a combination of a wap11 and a wet11

Let's say you have WAP #1 in Room A on channel 1. With WAP #1 you get decent range at up to 75 feet. At 70-75 feet, you place the WET11. The WET11 should be configured in Infrastructure mode (done by first setting it up on a computer). Using Infrastucture mode it can communicate to Access Points (i.e. WAP #1). At this point you take WAP #2 (for ex.
Ch. 11) and wire it to the WET11 via cross-over cable at the same location.

This way your WAP #2 acts as a second access point, extending your range even further from point B (location of second WAP and WET11).

BCU's (Bandwidth Control Unit) are not supported by our routers. T_T

YOOHOOO...... !!
WAP11 first version only has the SNMP Utility. It doesn't have a Web Utility

WUB11 v.2.6 DOES NOT support Win95 flatporm. ;P

Neat page to help you set up PS2 with the router

Some info if your client is running WinPoet (clients with our LAN cards, no router involved!) from error629.com:

Error 629: The port was disconnected by the remote computer.

3Com's card with BNC (running at 10 MBPs) has conflicts with our BEFSR41?
