Jacqueline and Ernie's 2004 West Trip

Imagine going back in time to a place 50+ million years ago where there was a large lake teeming with life. Now the lake is gone and its sediments are layers of rock. It took us two and a half days to drive to Fossil Butte National Monument in southwest Wyoming near Kemmerer. The next morning we went to Ulrich's pay quarry to split rock and discovered a dozen fossil fish which we brought home. Exciting fun!

Kemmerer was the home of J.C. Penny. Penny's first store is still there. From here we headed north to Grand Teton National Park and the most beautiful scenery of the trip.
