Major Research Interests: Regulation of phagocytosis and membrane trafficking, and regulation of invasion and metastasis of cancer cells.

My laboratory is investigating the molecular mechanisms that regulate phagocytosis of bacteria and the formation of phagolysosomes. These events are performed by neutrophils and macrophages and are critically important in the immune response triggered by invading pathogens. We are also exploring the reasons why certain pathogens such as the causative agent of tuberculosis are able to survive in macrophages.

A second major project involves defining the molecular signaling pathways that regulate the invasion and metastasis of prostate cancer cells. Invasion and metastasis are the primary reasons patients with cancer end up dying, and a better understanding of this process will lead to the development of more effective therapies.
