2. Formula Extreme Pro Thunder bikes:
Classic machines are catered for in FX Pro Thunder bikes and naked bike classes:
Pro Thunder F3= All V4 cylinder engines under 700cc, All 3 cylinder engines under 700cc. All 2 cylinder 2 valve engines inder 1100cc. All 2 cylinder 4 valve engines under 750cc.
3. Bucket Racing :
Some smaller capacity classic machines are catered for in bucket racing classes. The classes are adjusted so that two stroke engined machines, and four stroke engined machines are on a competitive 'level playing field'. The class rules are available at:

4. Motorcycling Australia Historic:
Racing machines are classsifed by 'period' which relates to date of manufacture, and by capacity class. Rationalising these two aspects has become a major problem for event organisers. Newbies are advised to be careful to select classes in which they would be competitive when purchasing and preparing racing machines. They should note that time constraints during various meetings, often mean that capacity classes are combined within certain periods. This means that riders of lower powered machines may be competing against others with much higher power at their disposal. For those desiring to ride lower powered machines, some form of 'bucket racing' may be a better option.

Ultralightweight 125cc upper limit
Lightweight 250cc upper limit
Junior 350cc upper limt
Senior 500cc upper limit
Formula 750 750cc upper limit
Unlimited 1300cc upper limit
Junior sidecar 500cc upper limit
Senior sidecar 1300cc upper limit
These classes were established in the UK, and applied in normal road racing in Australia until about 1980. For Historic championships, Motorcycling Australia also specifies a lower capacity limt for each class.

4.2 Periods
The following class definitions apply to machines competing in Motorcycling Australia Historic championships
Period 1 - Veteran
Machines up to 31st December 1919.

Period 2 - Vintage
Machines 1st January 1920, up to 31st December 1945

Period 3 - Classic
Machines 1st January 1946 to 31st December1963

Period 4 - Post Classic
Machines 1st January 1963 to 31st December 1972

Period 5 - Post Classic (Forgotten Era)
Machines 1st January 1973 to 31st December 1982

Period 6 - Post Classic (New Era 1 & 2)
Machines 1st January 1982 to 31st December 1992
