TV Guide Online: Tonight we are chatting with Irene Molloy, star of the new WB sitcom Grosse Pointe. Hi Irene! Thanks for joining us!
Molloy: Hi, y'all!
Question: How do you like being on Grosse Pointe?
Molloy: I'm having a great time on the set, and meeting really cool and talented people. Just doing really funny stuff. The writing is so consistently funny, so we have great things to play.
Question: Is it hard to play a character who can be so mean?
Molloy: Someday's it is... some days it isn’t'... LOL. Some days it just comes out of nowhere, and other days I find it really challenging to pull out that mean side.
Question: How do you feel about playing Monica Lewinsky?
Molloy: LOL... Weeeeelllll...I'm just glad that I get to take off the Monica Lewinsky costume and go home. It was interesting actually to listen all the tapes, which BTW are kind of addicting, I actually found some compassion for Monica. Because she was so naive, and obviously manipulated by her so-called friend.
Question: How did you get that part on Grosse Pointe?
Molloy: Auditions... regular process. I came to LA to go to school, and ended up auditioning and came in for Grosse Pointe a few times, met Darren, and had the regular rounds. Like five or six times back. Then they called and said "It's yours! You can have it!" Which was very exciting, even though it was just a pilot at that point. When this got picked up I was just so shocked. It was the first pilot I did, and everyone had prepared me saying that only one or two pilots actually see the light of day, so I was really surprised. I was also surprised to see that I could play such a bitch... LOL. I was like, where did that come from? LOL
Question: You were picked by TV Guide as one of the 5 faces to watch on new TV shows, is that intimidating?
Molloy: LOL...Yes!!! Of course it is!!! It is in a way intimidating, because I was so used to being part of the ensemble we have here on the show, so I was surprised to get singled out. But, it was nice too, to be recognized. It's always nice when someone notices... :)
Question: So, does Hunter get her comeuppance anytime soon in the show? No offense, but she does deserve it, you have to admit.
Molloy: Ooooooooooohhhh... that's just so mean to me... LOL. Everyone wants to see me get my butt kicked... :) I don't think I should say, but... but...It's well-deserved, and it's on it's way. Hunter's going down.
Question: Do you think that Hunter has any redeeming qualities?
Molloy: Yes! Absolutely!! Hunter speaks up for herself, and even though it's over the top sometimes, she has no fear. She says want she wants to say. It sort of redeeming to be honest in a merciless way, because it does have its purpose. To just have that person around who just says things.
Question: Do you feel like your getting compared to the other actresses that you are parodying?
Molloy: Well, everyone interviewer I meet asks me about Shannon Doherty, so I might as well bring it up here... :) So, yes, I'm being compared to divas world-wide.
Question: Do you have any other projects set for the hiatus?
Molloy: I'm working on an album. I've been working on it for like a year now, and it will be released sometime next year, hopefully. I'm playing guitar, I'm writing songs... It'll be cool! It'll be totally different from what you see on Grosse Pointe.
TV Guide Online: Thanks Irene! We had a great time and we know you have to go back to shooting the show now but please come back SOON!
Molloy: I just hope that I can come back and do this again sometime soon!
TV Guide Online: Be sure to watch tomorrow night's episode of Grosse Pointe on the WB!!!
