IT'S
RUSSELL CROW'S NEST
|
Russell Crowe has given up flying lessons and
has instead turned his attentions to the sea.
The moody actor has charted a 52ft
yacht in which he plans to take girlfriend Danielle
Spencer on a sailing trip along the coast of
Oz to celebrate her birthday.
We hear he's also
installed a £35,000 bathtub in his Sydney villa,
large enough to accommodate six people.

Watering hole
RUSSELL Crowe
seems to be reining himself in. He's given up the flying
lessons, and has instead taken to the water, charting a
52-foot yacht, in which he plans to sail around Australia to
celebrate the birthday of Danielle Spencer (who's now
being referred to as his "fiancée"). But Russell
may still have a touch of the wild colonial boy in him - I
also hear he just installed a $50,000 bathtub, big enough for
six people, in his magnificent harbor side villa in Sydney. --

If it looks like Russell
Crowe, talks like Russell Crowe and moves like Russell
Crowe, it probably is. The Oscar winner’s latest film, a
period drama about 19th-century sailing ships (working title:
Master and Commander), is being shot at 20th Century Fox’s
Rosarito Beach studio, and the San Diego Film Commission’s
Kathy McCurdy expects Crowe, as well as director Peter Weir
(The Truman Show), to spend much of the downtime in San Diego.--

From The Daily Telegraph sports
pages, May 23:
"The Knights are angling to have Hollywood star Russell
Crowe as a special guest at EnergyAustralia Stadium for
Sunday's clash with Souths.
Newcastle may also ask Souths president George Piggins to make
an appearance at the game."

Russell Crowe:
The project that Crowe has been circling for nearly a year
now, Cinderella Man, is pursuing Crowe even harder.
They want to get Crowe to sign, and they want him before Ron
Howard gets him for The Alamo. If they get their way, Cinderella
Man, which is about a boxing champ in the 50's, will be
his next gig after he completes Peter Weir's film in Mexico.

BUILDING NEST HERE?
From the Austin Statesman
Don't you just love the way
Hollywood types come to Austin and expect to secretly go about
their business, unaware that this is the little city with the
big mouth? Ron Howard thought he could build sets in Dripping
Springs on the sly, but the "Welcome Opie" signs
went up around town before the first wall. The latest
worst-kept secret is that Russell Crowe is building a $10
million house on Lake Austin. The heavy buzz is that the 30
Odd Foot of Grunts singer has picked out 30 odd acres of
lakefront property near Rollingwood and plans to build a
mansion. Texas Monthly has no doubt already scuttled a Jessica
Simpson cover for one featuring Crowe ("Texas: A
Beautiful Mindset"). More on this as tongues continue to
wag . . .

Russell Crowe
is said to be none too happy that his long-suffering
girlfriend Danielle Spencer was so forthcoming with Aussie mag
New Idea. Among the revelations: The two rocking actors are
“held together by the thread of music.” Spencer also says
she considers Nicole Kidman, who has been linked to
Crowe, to be a good friend, but says she never met Meg Ryan.

Danielle
Spencer: White Monkey
–
Jon Hart -- The Advertiser
One smooch from Russell Crowe and she's hot property. But the
former Pacific Drive star really does have musical talent.
She's written her debut album and it's surprisingly good.
Laced with a sadness and
female independence, it's her atmospheric and moody sounds
which make this stand out. They gel with her alluring voice,
reminiscent of Tori Amos, Kate Bush and a young Madonna.
Highlights are the title track, the piano and electronica
infusion of 200 Steps and the upbeat Jonathon White.
With record sales on the
rise, maybe, just maybe, we might see her smile.

Director Ridley
Scott (Alien, Thelma and Louise, Gladiator) has revealed
his new project – an adaptation of Patrick Suskind's
brilliant dark novel, Perfume. The Oscar-winning filmmaker,
whose last movie was last year's Black Hawk Down, has
confirmed he will direct the screen adaptation of the book,
but offers no clue as to who he might like to see in the
leading role. 'Perfume is about a boy, Grenouille, who is born
with an exceptionally developed olfactory organ and therefore
kills people to steal their body odour. I have two or three
candidates in mind who are suitable for the role of Grenouille.
Who they are? I won't tell yet. If names are revealed now,
their salary will boom sky high.' Scott's summary is somewhat
cursory, but Grenouille's a juicy part which is bound to be
fiercely contested. Movie Bites reckons it'll go to Russell
Crowe, Robert De Niro, or possibly outside choice Ryan
Phillippe. -- PeopleNews |

REEL
DEALS That Ridley
Scott-Russell Crowe reunion will have to wait.
Scott is in talks with Warner Bros. to direct ''Matchstick
Men.'' It's a thriller based on an unpublished novel by Eric
Garcia about a con man who learns he has a daughter. It
would film this summer, pushing back to the fall Scott's
19th-century war epic ''Tripoli,'' in which he was hoping his
''Gladiator'' star Crowe would play the lead....-- EW.com |

COFFS Harbour
farmer Russell Crowe has been behind the camera in the
past week directing girlfriend Danielle Spencer's video
clip for her single Tickle Me. Sounds like quite a clip
too. Winter Olympic skating gold medallist Steven Bradbury
features in one scene surrounded by scantily clad dancers
while another features 12 ballerinas on a clifftop filmed at
Lennox Head in northern NSW. Rusty's ranch has also provided
the backdrop for other parts of the clip.--Sydney Confidential

Cricket with Al
Gore? This goes one better. Phillip James, of Picnic Point,
says he and a group of friends from Westpac play touch
football in the Domain each Thursday - but this week numbers
were down. "After we had played four against three for
about half an hour, a man asked if he could make up the number
- Russell Crowe, wearing a white Fiji-style jumper, black
tracksuit pants and sneakers. He joined us for the next half
an hour, playing a good game with loads of commitment,
including diving to make a number of touches. He wanted to
play on but we had to go back to work. After the game he
quietly introduced himself to each of us, making sure to get
all of our names. Oscar or no Oscar, he gained some big fans.
One lunchtime not to forget." |
