+Tour 2001+

Westlife done a debut tour at the beginning of 2001! It was truely the best concert i have ever been to! I was at two of the Glasgow shows and it was amazing! For those of you who didn't get the chance to go here is what happened! I am only gonna talk about one of the shows coz i would just be repeating myself near enough if i talked about both of them!

Place: Glasgow, SECC

Date: Sunday 18th February, 2001

Time: 9.05pm

The lights fade and the screaming begins. The curtain isn't even up yet and the screams are deafening. Everyone jumps from their seats and begins waving their glowsticks, put on their Dele Boppers (flashing things that you put on your head) and all the other stuff they bought beforehand. The banners are waving in the air. Lots of different styles and sayings (one in particular gets my mums attention and she thinks its so funny she points it out to me! - Kian You're My Special K)

The music begins - Rob D - Clubbed to Death. The stage lights up and the screams get louder and even more deafening. Three girls infront of me start jumping up and down and blocking my view a bit. We see 3 large pillars with huge screens on them, on the stage which start moving about. 5 girls dressed in white playing violins.

On the screen we see earth. It focus's on one bright star and the screen goes bright white and we can see a man walking down a corridor with 2 alien-type beings walking on either side of him. They come to the end of the corridor and opened a door, which leads in a white room with 5 beds placed in a circle.

On these beds are WESTLIFE (woohoo!) with their eyes covered with bandages. The man picks up those electric paddle things and places them on Shane’s chest and revives him. We see a heartbeat on the screen. Screams grow loud at this point! He revives them all and they slowly open their eyes - screaming begins again.

We then see Westlife walking down the corridor with a white light behind them (i.e. Like the Flying Without Wings video). The screens go black and the whole hall is black with lots of flashing Dele Boppers, glowsticks and everything else that is bright and flashes. The screams get louder and louder, green numbers begin falling down the screen (like the Matrix film!) and continue to do so until it is left with one number ‘0’ The screen goes blank and a small green box is flashing on the screen and begins typing the words:

Knock Knock

Are you Ready to Dream?

Do Dreams Come True?

The pillars begin moving around and fireworks go off. The music for Dreams Come True begins and we see Westlife in the pillars. The screams get louder and there is a huge BANG and Westlife jump off the pillars and we see them dressed in alien-type space suits. They begin singing the beginning of Dreams Come True. Just before they sing the first chorus they stop singing and dancing and the dancers, who are dressed in white from head to toe, start taking off their suits, the dancer undressing Nicky has bit of difficulty getting his left leg part off and Nicky can't help but laugh as she tugs at it, finally it is off and the 5 of them are on the stage, dressed in tight white alien-suits with a grey pattern on the chest, looking out at the audience (more screaming) and the music starts again and they carry on singing and dancing.

Once the song is done they quickly run off stage and the music for No No starts. Westlife reappear on the stage wearing white coats to go with their white outfits and start singing No No.

Once they have finished singing and dancing to No No, they each say a little bit to the crowd. Shane goes first, then Kian, then Nicky, then Mark and finally Bryan, who attempts to talk in a Glaswegian accent and makes the WHOLE crowd laugh!

The next song is If I Let You Go and white mountains and clear blue sky’s appear on the screen with red flags fluttering in the wind. They also have a red flag on the stage fluttering with the aid of a wind machine!

Next up is Swear It Again, and after them all protesting months before-hand that they weren't going to be sitting on stools during the concerts, they sit in the middle of the stage just beneath the drummer BUT not on stools!

Next song is Somebody Need You and the dancers return on stage with chairs for them, but not to sit on - to dance with (think BSB As Long As You Love Me video where they dance with the chairs!) They do a pretty good job and the screams go to deafening point again when they stand up on the chairs and jump over the back of them! Near disaster when Bryan’s foot gets caught on the back and nearly ends up landing head first on the stage but somehow managed to save himself without falling!

After that they run off the stage. The screens show a series of countryside pictures, a quiet stream, a tree, the sea and so on until music begins again and again the screams rise to deafening point and we realise that it is Seasons in the Sun. Westlife appear wearing warm, furry clothes and begin walking on conveyor belts built into the stage. At one part in the song they stop and let the belts take them back the way and then begin walking again except for Bryan, who ends up coming off the belt and has to take a big leap to get back on it as to not fly off it again. Bryan catches up with the others guys and they continue to walk, they then begin taking off the warm clothes and the screams get loud again. Bryan pretends to take off his trousers and the crowd goes wild and the girls in front of me begin jumping up and down and block my view once again!

The song merges into I Have A Dream. Half way through the song bubbles fall onto the stage and Bryan pretends to play football with them and ends up nearly falling (again!)

After that they ask us if they could take a photo of us and the drummer brings out a camera and the guys get together and the drummer takes a photo of the guys with the audience. Mark talks while the pillars move about and turn around to reveal balconys, ladders on the other side. They climb up them, Mark and Nicky push big bits on the middle down to make a little bridge. Mark stands in the middle of it while they begin singing You Make Me Feel. The crowd goes wild when Nicky begins the song and the crowd gets even louder when Kian sings his part in the song. They climb off the set as the song finishes and run off stage. The lights come on for a second and everyone seems to think that was the end of the concert and are ready to complain but once the lights fade again the screams start again.

The screens appear at the front again and we see the 5 dancers getting ready and putting on make up. The music for When You’re Looking Like That blares out the speakers and everyone goes wild when Westlife appear on the stage wearing shiny trousers and leather coats. The whole performance of this song reminded me of Boyzone’s Grease Medlay on the Where We Belong tour in 1998.

After that very energetic performance they set up mic stands at the front of the stage and walk back. Bryan asks the audience for a little favour ‘We are very hot up here from all this dancing and there is no air-conditioning, could you do us a tiny favour and blow some air at us.’ We grant his request and blow air towards them and their mic stand magically move towards them. Bryan begins laughing ‘Sorry but we were just too lazy to get the mics ourselves!’ The crowd began laughing at him and they began singing My Love.

They run off stage and Kian returns dressed in a white shirt and blue jeans carrying a guitar. ‘The guys and I had a slight fall-out there and they have went back home to Ireland and I am going to finish the concert off.' He began playing Wild Thing on his guitar and began singing. The whole crowd joined in until Bryan, Mark, Nicky and Shane walk onto the stage and ask what he is doing. He explains and Bryan hits him on the back of the head (a little too hard coz Kian began laughing and so did the others) Kian begins playing More Than Words on the guitar.

Next up is the Motown Medley. They sing little bits of My Girl (acappella), Can’t Get Next To You, Baby I Need Some Lovin’ (Bryan decides to jump off the stage at this point and the crowds goes wild – again! He nearly gets stuck down there and needs a stage hand to help him back onto the stage) and What Becomes of the Broken Hearted.

After that they sing Fool Again and Shane gets the crowd to sing the first verse to it and says it was well done and sings the rest of the song. They run off for another change! Onstage the dancers act as if they're welding stuff but it is only fireworks giving that effect and then the music starts It's Uptown Girl! And Westlife come out in these red mechanic suits, which have their names in glittery letters on the back. Out comes a vintage car under neither the drummer and Westlife open the bonnet and out comes a posh lady wearing a hat and walks on the conveyor belt. Westlife dance and pretend to knock each other over. And Bryan pretends to run beside her on the conveyor belt and (you guessed it!) came right off it and again nearly fell!

Next is What Makes A Man. After that they introduce their band and say goodbye and thank you to us and run off the stage.

After a LONG wait Westlife appear on the stage dressed in white and they begin singing I Lay My Love On You and walk on the conveyor belt and once again, Bryan comes off it about 3 times during the whole song and each time makes a big leap to get back on causing Shane to have a laughing fit and nearly ruin the song! After that song, they run off the stage again!

Next up is the final song of the night and the best song of all! Flying Without Wings. The stage is full of smoke and you see a light through it and Westlife appears through it on a big metal grid hanging above the audience. It moves right across the audience right to the back of the hall. The screams are louder than deafening point when they do this! They go back into the stage and the smoke covers them and they are no longer in sight.

The pillars begin moving across the screen again and they go black. The Rob D – Clubbed to Death song begins and we see Westlife walking down the corridor again and disappear in the bright light, you then see them lying back on the hospital-type beds at the beginning. The screen goes black and there is the green box again and it types up:

DREAM OVER

With that the sing fades out, the stage lights dim out and the hall lights come on and everyone is sad now that Westlife are gone!
