A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "A man has been arrested in the Netherlands by Dutch authorities. He remains in custody in connection with an incident involving a woman from the Camden Borough area."
Threatening letters
Dutch authorities had arrested the man at the request of the Metropolitan Police, said Scotland Yard. Mel C remains a Spice Girl, despite her solo work. Mel C started to receive threatening and sexually explicit letters last year, according to the Mirror.
Besides being a member of the Spice girls, Mel C has had a successful solo career. Her first solo single was actually a duet with Canadian singer Bryan Adams, When You're Gone, a number three hit in 1998. She also duetted with Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes on Never Be The Same Again, which reached number one in 2000.
The singer recently shared the microphone with classical tenor Russell Watson, recording a version of Bohemian Rhapsody for Watson's forthcoming album Encore.
14/10/2001 - Man held over Mel C porn mail
A man has been arrested on suspicion of sending sexually explicit mail to Spice Girl Mel C.
The man, who has not been named, is being questioned by Dutch police over offensive material which the star had received.
The singer Melanie Chisholm was reportedly sent a cassette last week with the message: "This is the day we are both going to die."
A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "Following a joint operation with the Dutch authorities, a man was arrested in Holland on suspicion of sending indecent mail to a woman who lives in the borough of Camden.
"The man remains in police custody in the Netherlands."
Scotland Yard denied reports that the 27-year-old was placed under 24-hour police protection as a result of the threats.
14/10/2001 - Sporty Spice in Death Threat FearsSPORTY Spice Mel C is under 24-hour police protection after receiving a
series of death threats.
The hate mail started last year and the singer eventually called in Scotland
Yard after a chilling recorded message arrived on a cassette tape at her
London home.
Part of the sinister recording said: "This is the day we are both going to
die."
Police have mounted a round-the-clock watch on her pounds 1.5million
apartment in north London and an undercover officer accompanies her whenever she goes out.
A friend of the 29-year-old, real name Melanie Chisholm, said last night:
"She is a tough cookie and understands that when you are a big star you
attract the attentions of a few very unpleasant people.
"But this has gone from being the usual besotted fan sexual nonsense to
thinly veiled threats of murder and torture. This is someone who has gone to the trouble of finding out where she lives, which has increased her worries considerably."
Detectives have also given security advice to "Baby Spice" Emma Bunton, who owns a flat in the same complex.
05/10/01 - Nice to C you backMEL C shows off her new look and appears to have got her sparkle back.
The image is in stark contrast to the dyed blonde locks and fuller figure she showed off in spring. Mel has spent the summer living with her mum in Liverpool after a solo tour left her worn out.
She told the Sun: "I've been keeping fit and eating properly. It's been really nice to relax."
Mel was launching work on a new cancer centre at Alder Hey Children's Hospital in the city.
She said: "My grandad died of the disease three years ago so this means a lot."
It's good to have the old Mel back.
