A friend
by Janice Marie

Did you ever just need a friend
To just sit and listen and hold your hand
One that you can pour your heart and soul
Knowing that they won't just let it go
Someone that you can trust not to tell
Everything that you have said
Knowing that if others knew
It would break your heart in two
Patience to just sit and not say a word
Letting you get all the hurt out from inside
About being told so many lies
All the thoughts circling around in your mind
Without reasons for your decline
Hateful things said without a thought
How they would break my heart in two
Never thinking how much they would make me blue
I will never understand why they were said to me
For I have done nothing to deserve such animosity
From someone that I trusted so completely
The sad part is that they were really said
And I had not done anything bad
I looked up at this person just to reassure that
It was not just a crude joke
But the look on this scowling face never broke
The words spoken were really meant for me
This in my heart I could finally see
I just can't understand
What could have made this person so mad
As far as I know I haven't done anything
To deserve anyone to act so mean
My heart feels like it has been torn into
And I am confused and don't know what to do
It is hard not to start to cry because
I feel I will never stop
It seems that I will never reach the top
No matter what I do
I can't seem to please you

Major General Vernon Chong SUAF, ret
With what happened in London a few days ago, consider this, when you have the time to really read it: ----- Major General Vernon Chong, USAF ret

This WAR is for REAL

To get out of a difficulty, one usually must go through it. Our country is now facing the most serious threat to its existence, as we know it, that we have faced in your lifetime and mine (which includes WWII).

The deadly seriousness is greatly compounded by the fact that there are very few of us who think we can possibly lose this war and even fewer who realize what losing really means.

First, let's examine a few basics:

1. When did the threat to us start?

Many will say September 11th, 2001. The answer as far as the United States is concerned is 1979, 22 years prior to September 2001, with the following attacks on us:

Iran Embassy Hostages, 1979; Beirut, Lebanon Embassy 1983; Beirut, Lebanon Marine Barracks 1983; Lockerbie, Scotland Pan-Am flight to New York 1988; First New York World Trade Center attack 1993; Dhahran, Saudi Arabia Khobar Towers Military complex 1996; Nairobi, Kenya US Embassy 1998; Dares Salaam, Tanzania US Embassy 1998; Aden, Yemen USS Cole 2000; New York World Trade Center 2001; Pentagon 2001.

(Note that during the period from 1981 to 2001 there were 7,581 terrorist attacks worldwide).

2. Why were we attacked?

Envy of our position, our success, and our freedoms. The attacks happened during the administrations of Presidents Carter, Reagan, Bush 1, Clinton and Bush 2. We cannot fault either the Republicans or Democrats as there were no provocation's by any of the presidents or their immediate predecessors, Presidents Ford or Carter.

3. Who were the attackers?

In each case, the attacks on the US were carried out by Muslims.

4. What is the Muslim population of the World? 25%.

5. Isn't the Muslim Religion peaceful?

Hopefully, but that is really not material. There is no doubt that the predominately Christian population of Germany was peaceful, but under the dictatorial leadership of Hitler (who was also Christian), that made no difference. You either went along with the administration or you were eliminated. There were 5 to 6 million Christians killed by the Nazis for political reasons (including 7,000 Polish priests). (see

Thus, almost the same number of Christians were killed by the Nazis, as the six million holocaust Jews who were killed by them, and we seldom heard of anything other than the Jewish atrocities. Although Hitler kept the world focused on the Jews, he had no hesitancy about killing anyone who got in his way of exterminating the Jews or of taking over the world - German, Christian or any others.

Same with the Muslim terrorists. They focus the world on the US, but kill all in the way -- their own people or the Spanish, French or anyone else. The point here is that just like the peaceful Germans were of no protection to anyone from the Nazis, no matter how many peaceful Muslims there may be, they are no protection for us from the terrorist Muslim leaders and what they are fanatically bent on doing -- by their own pronouncements -- killing all of us "infidels." I don't blame the peaceful Muslims. What would you do if the choice was shut up or die?

6. So who are we at war with?

There is no way we can honestly respond that it is anyone other than the Muslim terrorists. Trying to be politically correct and avoid verbalizing this conclusion can well be fatal. There is no way to win if you don't clearly recognize and articulate who you are fighting.

So with that background, now to the two major questions:

1. Can we lose this war?

2. What does losing really mean?

If we are to win, we must clearly answer these two pivotal questions.

We can definitely lose this war, and as anomalous as it may sound, the major reason we can lose is that so many of us simply do not fathom the answer to the second question - What does losing mean?

It would appear that a great many of us think that losing the war means hanging our heads, bringing the troops home and going on about our business, like post Vietnam. This is as far from the truth as one can get. What losing really means is:

We would no longer be the premier country in the world. The attacks will not subside, but rather will steadily increase. Remember, they want us dead, not just quiet. If they had just wanted us quiet, they would not have produced an increasing series of attacks against us, over the past 18 years. The plan was clearly, for terrorist to attack us, until we were neutered and submissive to them.

We would of course have no future support from other nations, for fear of reprisals and for the reason that they would see, we are impotent and cannot help them.

They will pick off the other non-Muslim nations, one at a time. It will be increasingly easier for them. They already hold Spain hostage. It doesn't matter whether it was right or wrong for Spain to withdraw its troops from Iraq. Spain did it because the Muslim terrorists bombed their train and told them to withdraw the troops. Anything else they want Spain to do will be done. Spain is finished.

The next will probably be France. Our one hope on France is that they might see the light and realize that if we don't win, they are finished too, in that they can't resist the Muslim terrorists without us. However, it may already be too late for France. France is already 20% Muslim and fading fast!

If we lose the war, our production, income, exports and way of life will all vanish as we know it. After losing, who would trade or deal with us, if they were threatened by the Muslims.

If we can't stop the Muslims, how could anyone else?

The Muslims fully know what is riding on this war, and therefore are completely committed to winning, at any cost. We better know it too and be likewise committed to winning at any cost.

Why do I go on at such lengths about the results of losing? Simple. Until we recognize the costs of losing, we cannot unite and really put 100% of our thoughts and efforts into winning. And it is going to take that 100% effort to win.

So, how can we lose the war?

Again, the answer is simple. We can lose the war by "imploding." That is, defeating ourselves by refusing to recognize the enemy and their purpose, and really digging in and lending full support to the war effort. If we are united, there is no way that we can lose. If we continue to be divided, there is no way that we can win!

Let me give you a few examples of how we simply don't comprehend the life and death seriousness of this situation.

President Bush selects Norman Mineta as Secretary of Transportation.

Although all of the terrorist attacks were committed by Muslim men between 17 and 40 years of age, Secretary Mineta refuses to allow profiling. Does that sound like we are taking this thing seriously? This is war! For the duration, we are going to have to give up some of the civil rights we have become accustomed to. We had better be prepared to lose some of our civil rights temporarily or we will most certainly lose all of them permanently.

And don't worry that it is a slippery slope. We gave up plenty of civil rights during WWII, and immediately restored them after the victory and in fact added many more since then.

Do I blame President Bush or President Clinton before him?

No, I blame us for blithely assuming we can maintain all of our Political Correctness, and all of our civil rights during this conflict and have a clean, lawful, honorable war. None of those words apply to war. Get them out of your head.

Some have gone so far in their criticism of the war and/or the Administration that it almost seems they would literally like to see us lose.. I hasten to add that this isn't because they are disloyal. It is because they just don't recognize what losing means. Nevertheless, that conduct gives the impression to the enemy that we are divided and weakening. It concerns our friends, and it does great damage to our cause.

Of more recent vintage, the uproar fueled by the politicians and media regarding the treatment of some prisoners of war, perhaps exemplifies best what I am saying.

We have recently had an issue, involving the treatment of a few Muslim prisoners of war, by a small group of our military police.

These are the type prisoners who just a few months ago were throwing their own people off buildings, cutting off their hands, cutting out their tongues and otherwise murdering their own people just for disagreeing with Saddam Hussein.

And just a few years ago these same type prisoners chemically killed 400,000 of their own people for the same reason. They are also the same type enemy fighters, who recently were burning Americans, and dragging their charred corpses through the streets of Iraq.

And still more recently, the same type enemy that was and is providing videos to all news sources internationally, of the beheading of American prisoners they held.

Compare this with some of our press and politicians, who for several days have thought and talked about nothing else but the "humiliating" of some Muslim prisoners -- not burning them, not dragging their charred corpses through the streets, not beheading them, but "humiliating" them.

Can this be for real?

The politicians and pundits have even talked of impeachment of the Secretary of Defense.

If this doesn't show the complete lack of comprehension and understanding of the seriousness of the enemy we are fighting, the life and death struggle we are in and the disastrous results of losing this war, nothing can.

To bring our country to a virtual political standstill over this prisoner issue makes us look like Nero playing his fiddle as Rome burned -- totally oblivious to what is going on in the real world.

Neither we, nor any other country, can survive this internal strife.

Again I say, this does not mean that some of our politicians or media people are disloyal. It simply means that they are absolutely oblivious to the magnitude, of the situation we are in and into which the Muslim terrorists have been pushing us, for many years.

Remember, the Muslim terrorists stated goal is to kill all infidels! That translates into all non-Muslims -- not just in the United States, but throughout the world.

We are the last bastion of defense.

We have been criticized for many years as being 'arrogant.' That charge is valid in at least one respect. We are arrogant in that we believe that we are so good, powerful and smart, that we can win the hearts and minds of all those who attack us, and that with both hands tied behind our back, we can defeat anything bad in the world!

We can't!

If we don't recognize this, our nation as we know it will not survive, and no other free country in the World will survive if we are defeated.

And finally, name any Muslim countries throughout the world that allow freedom of speech, freedom of thought, freedom of religion, freedom of the press, equal rights for anyone -- let alone everyone, equal status or any status for women, or that have been productive in one single way that contributes to the good of the world.

This has been a long way of saying that we must be united on this war or we will be equated in the history books to the self-inflicted fall of the Roman Empire. If, that is, the Muslim leaders will allow history books to be written or read.

If we don't win this war right now, keep a close eye on how the Muslims take over France in the next 5 years or less. They will continue to increase the Muslim population of France and continue to encroach little by little, on the established French traditions. The French will be fighting among themselves, over what should or should not be done, which will continue to weaken them and keep them from any united resolve. Doesn't that sound eerily familiar?

Democracies don't have their freedoms taken away from them by some external military force. Instead, they give their freedoms away, politically correct piece by politically correct piece.

And they are giving those freedoms away to those who have shown, worldwide, that they abhor freedom and will not apply it to you or even to themselves, once they are in power.

They have universally shown that when they have taken over, they then start brutally killing each other over who will be the few who control the masses. Will we ever stop hearing from the politically correct, about the "peaceful Muslims"?

I close on a hopeful note, by repeating what I said above. If we are united, there is no way that we can lose. I hope now after the election, the factions in our country will begin to focus on the critical situation we are in, and will unite to save our country. It is your future we are talking about! Do whatever you can to preserve it.

After reading the above, we all must do this not only for ourselves, but our children, our grandchildren, our country and the world.

Whether Democrat or Republican, conservative or liberal and that includes the Politicians and media of our country and the free world!

Please forward this to any you feel may want, or NEED to read it. Our "leaders" in Congress ought to read it, too.

There are those that find fault with our country, but it is obvious to anyone who truly thinks through this, that we must UNITE!

Comment I thank General Chong for forwarding this most appropriate and timely writing. I certainly concur with the writer on the necessity for standing up and uniting as peace loving American citizens. This country was founded by our forbears fleeing religious persecution. I do not care what religion anyone in this country chooses to practice as long as it does not advocate the overthrow of our government or the slaughter of people who do not choose to practice a religion that opposes the spread of democracy because of the choice it gives people to live in freedom. The fastest road to peace is to ensure a free world. "Speak softly and carry a BIG stick".

Enough is enough time to wake up
Terrorists Bombings

it is time that the Arabs start taking care of these mad men that are killing their own people as well as innocent people for no reason other than that they are not of their religion. It has gone beyond religion now. It has become a fanatic uprising of people who have no respect for life and don't care if they kill their own people . To indiscrimiately place bombs and kill any and all people that are not involved in anything other than making a living for their families or trying to enjoy a well earned vacation has to be the work of people that have absolutely no conscience and don't care about anyone or anything. Look at the last bombing of London. Their was one man that died because he took a bomb aboard the train and he had a wife and a small baby. What normal man would do such a thing? How many wives with babies were on that train that he bombed? This is not a war against countries it is a religious war like they had in the crusades. Fanatics running amoke in all countries. This isn't a war confined to one country and its people. This is an uprising that takes in all the world as we know it.Many educated and professional men and women are involved in these bombings. Many of these religious people send money to the terrorists so that they can purchase the materials to do all this damage and destruction. Who do you trust and who don't you trust? Will we have to have everyone searched before they take a bus or train in every country of the world? Has it come down to this way of living? Everyone will be afraid to go and do anything. Except for the terrorists. If some of their own people would come forward and report where they are and who they are it would help all the countries to stop this insanity. These are just my humble opinions. I love all people and this is so distressing to read the paper and hear the news about these bombings and these innocent people being killed. Does it have to come to your back door before something will be done? Does tv make it seem to impersonal and so if you can't be there or see it than it is ok? War is war, and terrorism is terrorism whether you are there or watching it on a tv set or hereing it on a radio. It affects us all IF they continue to get away with this there will be no one left to blow up. I was upset and very angry when I saw on the news the soldier that was shot and heard the arabic man speaking as he made his training film for future terrorist to view and learn from. We must get together and we must start joining and stopping all this madness.

Broken Hearts
Broken Hearts

By Janice Marie

How do you mend a broken heart

Is there a thread strong enough made

So that it won’t tear all apart

Exactly where does one start

Deep inside were all the pain resides

Or do you work at repairing pieces

Of it from the outside

Layer by layer hoping against hope

That when you get deep enough

It won’t be so rough

Hearts are tough and don’t break so fast

They were made a lifetime to last

But when things come in your path in life

And you are confronted with a lot of strife

It weakens the heart strings that hold it together

Things that others feel shouldn’t really matter

Make tiny tears at the seams of your heart

And if not taken care of it will fall apart

Most people don’t realize how deeply

Some people really feel about love and trust

That without them both they are lost

Some of us hold our hearts in our hands

And our happiness on so many others depends

When we are betrayed or just told to go away

Our hearts are broken and we don’t know what to say

Just this deep pain in our chest that hurts so bad

Tears sliding down our faces because we are so sad

Some say it is not good to love and care for others so much

But some of us really need this human touch

There are those that find happiness can’t you see

Helping others to be all that they can be

So when you have done all that you feel you can

It hurts when you find out that others don’t understand

The greatest gift you can give is friendship and love

And some of us hold out our hearts in our hands

Knowing that everything on others depends

Once in awhile a tear forms here and there

So please handle this gentle heart with care

Because in the end for you it will always be there

Words To Taps

(Note: there are no "official" words to Taps
below are the most popular.)

Day is done,
gone the sun,
From the hills,
from the lake,
From the skies.
All is well,
safely rest,
God is nigh.
Go to sleep,
peaceful sleep,
May the soldier
or sailor,
God keep.
On the land
or the deep,
Safe in sleep.
Love, good night,
Must thou go,
When the day,
And the night
Need thee so?
All is well.
Speedeth all
To their rest.
Fades the light;
And afar
Goeth day,
And the stars
Shineth bright,
Fare thee well;
Day has gone,
Night is on.

Thanks and praise,
For our days,
'Neath the sun,
Neath the stars,
'Neath the sky,
As we go,
This we know,
God is nigh.

The Story of Taps

The 24-note melancholy bugle call known as "taps" is thought to be a revision of a French bugle signal, called "tattoo," that notified soldiers to cease an evening's drinking and return to their garrisons. It was sounded an hour before the final bugle call to end the day by extinguishing fires and lights. The last five measures of the tattoo resemble taps.

The word "taps" is an alteration of the obsolete word "taptoo," derived from the Dutch "taptoe." Taptoe was the command - "Tap toe!" - to shut ("toe to") the "tap" of a keg.

The revision that gave us present-day taps was made during America's Civil War by Union Gen. Daniel Adams Butterfield, heading a brigade camped at Harrison Landing, Va., near Richmond. Up to that time, the U.S. Army's infantry call to end the day was the French final call, "L'Extinction des feux." Gen. Butterfield decided the "lights out" music was too formal to signal the day's end. One day in July 1862 he recalled the tattoo music and hummed a version of it to an aide, who wrote it down in music. Butterfield then asked the brigade bugler, Oliver W. Norton, to play the notes and, after listening, lengthened and shortened them while keeping his original melody.

He ordered Norton to play this new call at the end of each day thereafter, instead of the regulation call. The music was heard and appreciated by other brigades, who asked for copies and adopted this bugle call. It was even adopted by Confederate buglers.

This music was made the official Army bugle call after the war, but not given the name "taps" until 1874.

The first time taps was played at a military funeral may also have been in Virginia soon after Butterfield composed it. Union Capt. John Tidball, head of an artillery battery, ordered it played for the burial of a cannoneer killed in action. Not wanting to reveal the battery's position in the woods to the enemy nearby, Tidball substituted taps for the traditional three rifle volleys fired over the grave. Taps was played at the funeral of Confederate Gen. Stonewall Jackson 10 months after it was composed. Army infantry regulations by 1891 required taps to be played at military funeral ceremonies.

Taps now is played by the military at burial and memorial services, to accompany the lowering of the flag and to signal the "lights out" command at day's end.

Cup Your Hands
Mood:  amorous

Cup Your Hands
By Janice Marie

Cup your hands and hold them out to me
So that I can put my heart and soul
My trust and love with you for eternity
I will help you close your hands
And hold them tight
Always keep me within your sight
For a love like mine you will never know
If you open your hands and let me go
Feel the warmth in your hands
As my love grows and grows
The bright light streaming out
Between your fingers as my love glows
Put your hands up to your heart and
Tightly close your eyes
Listen as my heart softly sighs
I love you it says so you alone can hear
As you hold me so closely dear
Guard this love of ours for all time
For it is special and you are mine
To spend each and every day
Every minute and moment our way
Press my love into your heart with your hands
Hold them there and let the warmth seep in
Feel my love surrounding you as you do this
Gently whispering against your sweet lips
I love you and for all time
Darling say you will always be mine

apology to Bob Fox
It seems my poem has caused some controversy. Just wanted to say I wrote in with the spirit in mind. Sorry if I offended anybody.

Bob, I hope you dont mean me. I loved your poem and it just made me aware that their are people out there that treat others like they have terminal diseases when they have an infirmaite. I will post this in the group. This poem I wrote had nothing to do with your poem. It made me aware of a subject that I have been aware of for a long time. I am so sorry if I unintentionally made you feel that I took your poem the wrong way. I was not speaking to you. I tend to put myself and others in the first person. If I offended you I am truthfully sorry. Do not take this personally. My friend and I have to use a wheelchair from time to time and I have been a victum of this kind of "abuse" from people and so has she.

Do you really think you can feel my pain?
As I struggle to regain my health
Can you feel my strenght leaving me
When I try over and over not to strain?
Do you know that without my courage
This would not be anything to gain?
I fight everyday for a stronger body
Will I beable to make it up from my bed?
Or will I once again be a prisoner here instead?
Awareness sometimes insn't a good thing
If you are going to suffer like another human being
Take it from me my friend, don't wish to be aware
Of all that suffering and pain out there
I know from experience how pain feels
And I know how much I have had to deal
So it is a nice thought that you have their in your heart
But of my painful world you dont want any part
Would you like not being to walk a mile
Without a brace on your leg
Everyday is a new trial
Will I win today or not can't you see
I don't want you to be that aware of me
I want someone to come and bring me a smile
So that I can forget my pain for awhile
Don't look to share anothers infimatives
Instead be a friend and don't shy away from them
So many people think that a brace or a wheelchair
Makes the person in them dumb and deaf as they sit there
Treat them as you would your best friend
Make them have a good day and be able to smile again
Why do people think that if a person is missing a limb
Can't be a great friend and have some fun with them?
So many times when I am in my chair
I have to have help from someone to be wheeled from here to there
People turn their heads and look away
Why ? Are they afraid that I may ask them to help me one day
I don't need any help thank you very much
I will not let anyone make me feel
like I am something to be shamed
I know in my heart that I will not always be lame
So watch what you wish for becareful what you think
Because you don't know how much it would take you to the brink
I am strong and I am sure that one day I will be well
and then I will have many happy stories to tell
So be careful what you want to become aware of my friend
You may find that the pain you may not be able to withstand
I hear this from people everyday when I am out and about
They tell me how lucky I am that I am alive and I want to shout
I know I am alive and I don't have any intention of leaving this earth
I can feel in my soul and heart that there will be a rebirth
My limbs will strengthen and I will once again be able to stand
Then I will be a welcome part in society once again
I deserve to be treated like everyone else that is whole
I will not tolerate being told that I can't do certain things
I am just as good as you are my fellow human beings
So if you really want to become aware of all that is out there
Begin with that lonely person sitting in that wheelchair

Close to Me

By Janice Marie

We are finally alone and my thoughts turn to you

And all the wonderful things that I want to do

I can hardly wait for you to touch me so I can feel

The overwhelming sensations that my heart knows are real

The lights have been dimmed and the sheets drawn

You take me slowly in your loving arms where I belong

Running your hands up and down my arms making me sigh

No darkness for us because I want to see the look in your eyes

As you lower your head and take my face into your hands

Tipping my head and gently starting to kiss my lips

Ever so slowly little tiny kisses filling me with desire

More urgently now so that my heart is on fire

Possessively and tightly you wrap your arms around me

As you pull my close into your embrace

Bodies touching and heat is rising inside of us both

In both our eyes the desire for each other can be seen

Dilating pupils show how much desire is coming over us

Filling our bodies not only with love for each other but lust

Gently you lay me on our bed and run your fingers through my hair

As we gaze into each others mellowing and glowing eyes

We look deeply into them and we are becoming hypnotized

With the beauty of seeing and feeling each others body

Running my hands up and down your back

As you gently and slowly kiss my neck

I begin nibbling on your ear and running my hands through your hair

Exploring each old and new place that we have come to know

From loving each other thoroughly and slow

As we explore gently with our hands you slip over me

The weight of your body sends chills up and down my spine

You smile at me because you know how I love being under you

And I smile back and start kissing your chest as you like me to do

Making your muscles in your back taunt and flex as you move

Spreading my palms over your back and feeling the strength in you

Slowly feelings begin to explode within us anticipations growing

The sweat on our bodies make them seem as if they are glowing

Whispering words of love to each other as we reach the peak

Desires and thoughts of our love circling in our minds

Sharing the happiness and joy of the love that we seek

Holding on to each other and enjoying the feelings of peace

Knowing that in our hearts there can never be anyone else

Thoughts of forever enter our minds for we are one

And there will never be any thought of one self

Lives begun as friends and love that has grown over time

Will continue until our lives both come to their ends

So while we have each other here and we can be

Close and share our love for all eternity

Let us always think of one another first no matter what

Comes in to hinder our happiness

Always to share and care and to remember this

Love comes to those who are willing to risk the chance

That this love will be an uphill climb

And there will be ups and downs at different times

So darling know this from deep in my heart and soul

I can never willingly let you ever go

Don’t even think of such things when you are angry you see

Because without you there will not be another day of living for me

I could not go on without your sweet and tender love

There would be no reason for living that I would be able to think of

Always say you love me as I have shown you in every way I can

Since we decided to share all of our love and our life together began

By Janice Marie

Promises made before when we were young
Promises whispered in my ear before our life
Together had really begun
Promises made as I went through school
Promises that I took as the golden rule
Promises made to a young girl who was full of life
Promises to love me all my life
Promises that meant the world to me
Promises that I depended on as a young bride
Promises now that I know that were lies
Promises made so lightly have broken my heart
Promises I thought were real right from the start
Promises that I depended on to brighten my existence
Promises that I thought would always be persistant
Promises made so lightly to an eager young and longing soul
Promises that slipped off your lips and so easily told
Promises that I remember form the day we met
Promises that I am having a hard time to forget
Promises that I have realized mean nothing to you
Promises that have left me sad and blue
Promises that I thought would last my whole life through
Promises so easily spoken have taken my heart
Promises spoken falsely have finally broken it all apart
Promises shattered it and torn it into a million pieces
Promises can not undo all the pain that it releases
Promises have no meaning to me now
Promises are not real when you know the one you loved
Promised them and did not really know how much they meant
Promises that were written and through the mail sent
Promises that I found out he had said to many more
Promises that were not special to me anymore
Promises to me are something I take very lightly and don’t depend
Promises made to me mean absolutely nothing to some in the end
