chapter two

Evilyn strolled to the front of the group, arm still linked with Eminem's. Passing JC, who was still looking a bit flustered since Evilyn had jumped out of his arms, Evilyn hooked her arm with JC's other arm. Practically dragging both of them, Evilyn led the group out to the parking lot. Stepping off of the curb, she let go of both of their arms. "Woah, whatever you do, don't make it a race!" she said to both of them sarcastically. "I don't DRAG people except Jive executives, and that's only by their ears! You guys are like, the fastest-walking people I know. What is UP with you two today?" Rolling her eyes and sighing, Evilyn reached her car and pulled out her keys.

Seeing that the entire group was gathered around her, JC and Eminem at the back of the crowd, she stepped back from her door. "You guys realize that my car is European, don't you? We won't all fit."

There were a few mumbled, "Oh, rights".

Evilyn nodded her head, running a hand over her face. Stepping up to the closest person, who happened to be Chris, she waved her hand in front of his face, "Hello?! Anybody in there?"

He pushed her hand away. "I'm here, all right?"

Running her hand through her hair, Evilyn decided to assign them to cars. "Okay, let's try to keep the number of cars to a minimum. If we put really short people in the back, we can fit four people in my car. I guess Marcia and Anna. And, whoever wants to ride in the passenger seat."

Both JC and Eminem were completely out of it, but Marcia dragged JC over to the passenger side.

"Okay," Evilyn continued, "We can also take Justin's car—"

"Huh?" Justin asked, suddenly looking up.

"Will you drive?" Evilyn asked.

He nodded.

"Okay, so his car can hold five, but it'd probably be a lot more comfortable with just four. How about Justin, Em, Leigh, and Chris?"

Everyone but Eminem halfway nodded their heads. Looking slightly concerned, Evilyn finished, "Then, I guess, Lance can drive. And Kimberly and Joey can ride with him." They all stood their ground. "All right, leave everyone. Car...drive? You know?"

Everyone took off in the direction of the car they were assigned. Evilyn sighed in relief, taking the driver's seat in her own car, and leading the other two down the highway. "I was afraid I was going to have to explain everything again."

No one said anything.

Looking around at each of their faces, she saw that none of their faces were blank, as they had been just a few minutes ago. They were confused, thoughtful.

Turning to JC, she insisted, "What is it? He's never done anything to any of you and I want to know why you think you're better than him. No--I just want to know what you're thinking."

Looking up into her eyes with a cold stare that could haunt her for the rest of her life, even knowing it wasn't meant for her, JC said nothing. The answer was clear, though.

Struggling with his voice, all he could do was shake his head. Astonishment, anger, or total shock. He was amazed at himself, how he could be completely calm in the presence of Eminem, yet...Perhaps it was the calm before the storm. What had happened in the office? He had tried to unearth more of why he needed to hate "Eminem" so much. Make no mistake, his hatred was there, and rightfully so.

Then he realized: no one else had realized who Marshall--Eminem--was, until JC had been so surprised in the hallway about the way Evilyn had greeted Eminem.

After...after everything he'd done to her....Playing the situation again in his mind, JC realized that Eminem had been just as surprised.

The second stage was his calmed shock. With everyone's understanding, the group had fallen silent.

Now...

For the next half an hour, the car was silent. No one even dared to reach for the radio.

Suddenly, the three cars turned onto a gravel road, which led them into a thick forest. Quickly, they came upon a tunnel, which dropped slowly underneath the ground. As the tunnel ended, they drove into a parking lot perfectly lit with street lamps. There were no more than 30 parking spaces, only two of which were occupied. The employees, obviously, parked around the back of the....PYRAMID?

As they each parked their cars and stepped out, Evilyn was the only one who stepped forward at all, and she was seemingly not surprised by the amazingly life-like Egyptian pyramid and statues that surrounded them. The Egyptian theme wasn't surprising, Evilyn was practically obsessed with Egypt, but the statues, the art...

"Woah." Joey was the first to speak.
