The TnT scenes recapped in this memory post are very "enlightening” and highlights some of the new, different (and “real”) emotions and feelings between Todd and Téa, at this point in their relationship. These scenes occur some time after the [intensely emotional] Bayberry Inn and New Year’s Eve [angst-ridden and romantic] scenes. We’re entering the TnT storyline at the point where the courts have just awarded Blair supervised visits with Starr and immediately after an “ugly scene” at the Palace Hotel Bar between both Ts and Blair, which ends with Todd saying to Téa.... “Let’s get out of here. I think there are too many “windows” around here”.
[Later that evening, TnT are back at the Penthouse. Téa comes down the stairs, after changing out of her street clothes and into a gorgeous nightgown and robe. Todd’s reading one of his little pamphlets [or at least, he was pretending to be reading, LOL!]
Todd: Yeah. Well.
Téa: We both have to learn not to let Blair push our buttons. Otherwise Starr will pick up on all of the animosity, assuming she hasn’t already.
Todd: Starr’s gonna be fine.
Téa: That may change when Blair begins her regular visits here.
Todd: Not gonna be a problem. Blair will be on her best behavior.
Téa: (not at all convinced) You seem pretty confident.
Todd: It’s a no-brainer. Blair’s gonna be showing off for “Susie the Social Worker” and trying to make all of her brownie points so she can go in for the kill later. Believe me, that’s her plan.
Téa: Like you said, I hate it.
Todd: Yeah, well, like you said, we gotta live with it.
Téa: I didn’t exactly.... but uh, you’re right. Ok, as of this moment, Blair will have no more power over us tonight. Hey, what are you reading anyway? I’ve seen you reading that little book.
[Téa gets up from her seat beside the fireplace and goes over and kneels on the floor beside the couch, trying to read over Todd’s shoulder.]
Téa: (reading) “The Way of Chung Zu?”
[While Téa is busy craning her neck, trying to get a better view of what’s written inside the book, she doesn’t notice the immediate change in Todd’s body language, which indicates his awkwardness at having her so “close” to him.... especially in that nightgown! But Téa is completely “oblivious” to Todd’s reaction.]
[Still very “affected” by Téa’s proximity to him, Todd drops the book on the floor and immediately gets up from the couch, a move that finally gives Téa “a clue” as to what’s going on with him.]
Téa: (also rising to her feet) You don’t have to run away every time I happen to get close to you.
Todd: Hey, I don’t run, alright?
Téa: Yeah, you do.
Todd: (nervously fidgeting around) Lighten up.
Téa: Ever since.... ever since we got back from the Bayberry Inn, you jump whenever I get within two feet of you!
Todd: (rolling his eyes) Well, it’s all that electricity between us.
Téa: You made your point real clear, Todd. I got the message. So, don’t flatter yourself, Ok? I have no insidious little seduction schemes in mind for you. I may be a masochist, but I’m certainly not in the mood to humiliate myself.
Todd: (moving a couple steps closer to her) Look, this may be a blow to your ego, Delgado, Ok, but your “personal magnetism” had nothing to do with me standing up just then.
Téa: Oh, really?
Todd: Yeah.
Téa: Fine!
Todd: I just..... have a lot of unfinished work.... important work and.... so, I’m heading to the office.
Téa: Now?
Todd: (grabbing his jacket and overcoat) Yeah.
Téa: But.....
Todd: (going out the door) That’s how I can afford this “happy” home.
[It’s the next day, and Todd comes through the PH door with coffee, having spent the entire night at The Sun. He takes his coffee over to the desk and begins stirring sugar and creme into the cup.]
[Todd is stretched out on the couch, probably still wondering IF Delgado is “gone”... but Téa appears to be in a very good mood as she comes in the door, humming a “tune” to herself, with a couple of shopping bags in her hands.]
Téa: Rough night at the office?
Todd: Yeah. But I cleared a lot off my desk.
Téa: Did you?
Todd: Yeah... just upended the whole thing.
[Téa just gives him an “exasperated” look as she picks up his coat from the floor and leaves the room with it.]
Todd: (receiving no response, looks over his shoulder) That was a...... joke. Never mind. And I spent the rest of the morning planning Shorty’s birthday bash. I reserved one of those big banquet halls down at the Country Club, you know? Got a cake, case of Scotch, big funny hats... you know, the whole works.
[Téa re-enters the living room and goes over and kneels beside the coffee table, with a cleaning cloth in her hand to clean up the mess Todd’s made on the table.]
Todd: Well, I’ll be there. And Shorty’ll be there.
Téa: That’s it?
Todd: Yeah, pretty much.
Téa: Oh, come on, you didn’t invite your sister?
Todd: I might have mentioned something about it to her.
Téa: Good. Anybody else?
Todd: Well, you know, Viki doesn’t come by herself, you know she’s part of a big “family package deal” thing.
Téa: Oh, great. So Jessica, Joey, and Kevin.....
Todd: (interrupts) Whoa, Whoa... No, back up, Ok? For the record, I don’t like Kevin. I never have, even when we were back in college... you know, before we were related. And Jessica, well, you know... she’s harmless, right? She’s got nice hair. She’s the only one I can leave Moose with when I go out of town. And Johnny, I don’t mind him so much....
Téa: Joey.
Todd: Well, Joey... whatever. He doesn’t bug me that much.
Téa: Why not?
Todd: He’s not even a person, really. He’s just somebody that goes somewhere, learns how to speak French or something. He really has nothing to do with the newspaper business.
Téa: Ok... that makes...... some sense (small laugh under her breath)
Todd: What, that’s about it then, right?
Todd: I’m not gonna get a clown, alright? I don’t like clowns, and I think that they scare Shorty.
Téa: (laughs) That’s not what I had in mind.
Todd: (gets up from the couch) Then, what is it? Did I forget something?
Téa: (arms folded in a 'determined' manner) Her mother.
Todd: (equally determined) Well, Blair’s not coming.
Téa: Look... I don’t like the idea very much myself. But don’t we owe it to Starr to have some of Blair’s side of the family there?
Todd: I don’t like the Cramer women... they make me all “itchy”.
[Téa doesn’t respond, but gives him “this look” as though she’s just patiently waiting for him to talk himself into doing what he knows is the “right” thing to do.]
Todd: And, they’re like locusts, right? You can’t have one, you gotta have the whole “plague”. Oh, come on, you really want Blair there?
Téa: Fine.... but, I’d like to ask some of my friends.
Todd: Fine, ask your friends. Well, who are your friends?
Téa: I have friends!
Todd: No, I know you have friends. So, who are your friends?
Téa: Carlotta, Rachel.....
Todd: (throws in very quickly) Andrew....
Téa: No, no.... not Andrew.
Todd: (studying her very closely) What, God said he couldn’t be there?
Téa: No, he’s just been busy lately, that’s all.
Todd: (sarcastically) Well, that’s too bad. There’s a clown I think Starr would have really liked.
Téa: (glad to be changing the subject) Oh! I got enough to be from the both of us.
Todd: Yeah, well, me too.
Téa: Oh yeah?
Todd: Yeah.
Téa: (picking up one of the stuffed toys from Todd’s stash) Oh, my God!
Todd: See? A kangaroo.....
Téa: Awwwww.....
Téa: This is my favorite.
Téa: (laughing) Can’t have too many.....
Both Ts: (talking at the same time) .... flying squirrels!
[Téa continues to laugh, and for a brief moment, we see Todd sneaking a look at her, enjoying her laughter. Téa picks up another one of the toys from Todd's pile of toys.]
Todd: (pointing at one of the toys she’s bought) Hey, where’d you get that one?
Téa: Oh, I got this one at “Babes in Toyland” on Husin Alley. Yeah, this one’s great.
[Again, we see Todd sneaking yet another “look” at Téa... and as TnT are kneeling close together on the floor, once again Todd becomes “aware” of and is very “affected” by having Téa so close to him. He stands up, nervous and awkward, all of a sudden.]
Téa: What?
Todd: (fidgeting) Nothing.
Téa: (persists) What?
Todd: Well, I think I forgot to get her that one that she really liked, you know, when she saw it in the commercial, she was laughing......
Téa: (standing up) Oh the.... the hopping frog!
Todd: (moving away from Téa) Yeah.... why’d you move my coat before? (putting on his jacket) I’m gonna go get a hopping frog.
These scenes emphasizes for us just how extremely pivotal “Bayberry” really was for TnT... because although unbeknownst to her, at Bayberry, Téa had broken through some of Todd’s walls, gotten in “very close” and very deeply under his skin... but, at this point, Todd is STILL “running”... not so much from Téa, but from his own feelings and emotions, and as Téa had challenged him during their time at Bayberry..... "away from the man he still believed himself to be". I think Bayberry was the turning point at which it would become increasingly difficult for Todd to hide (and run from) his true feelings, and imo, we're witnessing exactly that here in these scenes.
We're also getting a sense that Téa is already starting to convince herself to “settle” for Andrew, believing that she will never have Todd’s love. Although there were many emotional rollercoasters and twists and turns which still lay ahead of TnT (Andrew being one of them), the day would come (very soon) when Todd was no longer running "away" from himself and his feelings of love for Téa... and we would see him pulling out ALL the stops, doing whatever it takes to HOLD ON to 'Delgado'... as for Téa, she would reach a point where setting up a "seduction scheme" (as she proclaimed here that she would never do) would become a very humiliating and painful "reality".... both Ts were quickly reaching the crucial point in their relationship where each of them would be trying (in their own way) to grasp their eternal destiny and hold on as tight as they could, trying to hold on to each other.... to hold on to LOVE..... "forevermore".
