I started running down the hill after her and I saw a kid holding a skateboard. I grabbed the skateboard while leaving a 10 dollar bill. "I'll bring it back!" I yelled behind my shoulder. I jumped and put the skateboard under me and rolled down the hill after Ashley.

"Hang on Ashley!" I yelled.

"HELP!" She yelled, arms waving around madly.

I was almost there and I could see a curve in the road ahead and a nice brick wall straight ahead of us. If I didn't catch her soon, there would be no time to turn before hitting the wall. Needless to say hitting the wall was not a good idea.

I caught up with her and I turned just in time, the road started going uphill slightly so we were very gradually slowing down. There was a patch of grass so I led her to it and we both fell over. I let her fall on me so she wouldn't get hurt.

She burst out laughing.

"You think that's funny?!" I asked incredulously. "You coulda hit that wall!"

"I know! Just..." She just continued laughing.

"Hmmphhh" I mumbled pushing her up a bit so I could rub my elbow where I had a big bruise coming in.

"Awww... poor Marc-Andre." She said. "I'll make it all better." She leaned down and kissed my elbow. She was re-enacting a scene that used to happen pretty frequently when we were young. It was pretty ironic since it was for almost the same reason. She tried to roller skate and I save her, hurting myself in the process.

"Thanks." I laughed.

She smiled and leaned back on the grass, looking up at the stars. "That's my one" She said pointing to a very bright one.

"That's mine" I said pointing to another "The one that's always by your (stars) side"

She looked at me, with a small smile creeping up. It might have been the lighting, but I think I saw her blush.

I started to play with a few blades of grass, debating wether I should tell her how I feel or not. Either our friendship becomes something more, or I lose a little bit as she says no. It was so hard to decide.

I was so busy trying to decide that I didn't notice her lean closer to me, until she kissed me. Ok, so I don't mind. I was kissing her back when I heard a weird sound. It took me a moment to realize what it was.

I looked up and I could see little black dots flying in the dusk sky. I realized that they weren't our planes and I told Ashley to get up and run.

"What is it?" She asked, not knowing what was going on.

"Touble," I said. "Big trouble." I reached for my rifle, but it was only then that I realized I didn't have it with me. I must have left it at the apartment. "Hurry!"

We got to the apartment and on a hunch I ran inside. Sure enough Brett was there "Come on!" I yelled.

He jumped up and walked over to me. We told the girls to stay there and promised we'd be back for them if things got really bad. As of yet, we hadn't been attacked.

"Be careful." Mary-Kate said to Brett. He ran back and gave her a kiss.

"I'll be back." He said, then ran back to join me. We ran down the hall and down the stairs. "How many were there?" He asked, while running.

"I could only see maybe fifteen of them." I answered. "It's weird that they didn't attack us."

"I think they are a recon pack." He replied. "They probably want to take this city in one peice, unlike L.A."

We ran towards the base. On our way, a bus passed by and picked us up. "Get in!" The bus driver said. "I'll get you guys there a lot faster."

"Thanks." We both said as we got in. Paul, Kathryn and John were sitting in the bus along with a few other soldiers. We sped towards the base as fast as the bus could take us.

***Ashley***

Mary-Kate and I hid under the table as the planes flew overhead.

"What do you think they're doing here?" I asked her.

She went kind of pale "I don't know but I remember something Brett said..."

"What?"

"He said, that there was a remote chance that they could be attacking cities further inland." She said, shaking.

"WHAT?" I yelled. "Why didn't you tell me?"

Another helicopter flew by, really low.

"I didn't want you to worry" She said nervously.

I opened my mouth to respond but the sound of the helicopter was getting insistently louder, I started to crawl out from under the table, to see what was going on. But, just then a beam of light shot through the window above us, I quickly hid under the table again.

The light scanned the room then disappeared.

I crawled over to the window and looked out, "Oh boy" I breathed

"What?" Mary-Kate asked from under the table.

The helicopted had landed on the street, right in front of our house, and some soldiers were climbing out and heading for our apartment.

***Brett***

We arrived at the military base to find everyone running around. The spot lights were going crazy trying to keep up with the enemy jets that were flying by. A plane was taking off and an enemy plane came up behind it as it rolled down the runway. The five of us looked at the plane, hoping it would make it. The enemy plane launched a missile at the plane, when it made contact, the plane exploded in a bright fireball.

We all looked at eachother and headed to see Captain Gibson. He appeared from his office, ready to move out. "All right," He said as a plane flew overhead. "We've been stationed at the south-central area of the city."

"That's where the girls are." Marc-Andre said to me. I smiled, knowing I would personally be there to protect them.

An APC (Armored Personnel Carrier) rolled up and opened it's rear door. Captain Gibson ran towards it. "This will take us there. Hurry up troops! Double time!"

***Mary-Kate***

I crawled out from under the table and made my way to where Ashley was sitting by the window. She hadn't answered my question and her face was really pale.

"Ashley?" I whispered as I sat down next to her. I hadn't been able to bring myself to look out the window yet, fearing what I would see.

"We've got to hide!" Ashley said, quickly taking my hand and searching madly for a place to hide.

In our apartment, there wasn't that many places to hide. The only logical place was in the closet under a bunch of clothes. We got in a closet and dumped our laundry on top of us and closed the door.

We heard a lot of voices outside and then the door opened. I could only just see Ashley, there was a small crack of light from where the door was open a bit. Her eyes were wide and panicked.
