I saw the damage that the flood had caused. Most of the town was washed away with the water, leaving a few buildings standing. I decided to go see if the tree Brett and I had our picnics, and first kiss under, was still there since it was on a hill. I smiled when I saw the tree still standing.

"This is my favorite place on earth." I said as I spun around with my arms extended towards the sky.

"It's beautiful here." Ashley agreed. "So peaceful."

We both laid down in the sun, loving the warmth and calm.

"Could this be any more perfect?" Ashley said.

"If Brett could be here, it would be perfect." I said, feeling bad for leaving him in the hospital alone. But, he did say for me to go out and enjoy myself.

"Brett's not coming." An all too familiar voice said. It took me a second for it to sink in, but when it did sink in, I shot up.

"RYAN!" I screamed, trembling.

"Miss me?" He smirked.

Ashley got up and grabbed my arm. We started to run away from the guy who tried to kill Brett and I. We had to find help, fast!

"Where do you think you're going?" He called after us.

"You can run! But you can't hide!" He taunted.

"Where can we go?" Ashley asked me as we ran.

There wasn't really anywhere we could hide since most of the town was washed away.

We looked at each other in desperation.

I was familiarizing myself with the new RD-10 and I did some target practice. I was thinking back to Ashley, Mary-Kate and Brett. I wondered how they were doing and I wished Brett was here with me. it wasn't as scary with him around. We'll be moving out on our mission soon and I played everything was going to go well.

I aimed at a tree outside when I heard someone call out "DON'T SHOOT!"

It sounded like a girl, just as I was wondering who it was a young brunette girl of about 16 appereared in sight. She held her hands up.

"Who are you?" I asked pointing the gun at her.

"I'm John's sister" she said

I didn't believe her "John! Get out here" I called

He walked into the room. "What is it?" He glanced out the window wondering what I was watching "Kathryn!"

"John!" She called

He ran outside and quickly brought her in to safety.

"What are you doing here?" I asked the girl a little angry. "I almost shot you, thinking you were an enemy."

"I... I'm sorry." She sobbed. "I wanted to come and see John. I'm so afraid for him."

"I'm sorry, Marc-Andre." He said to me.

"It's alright. She's just lucky she made it here alive." I said. "The question now is what are we going to do with her?"

"Excuse me!" She said turning to look at me "Don't talk about me as if I'm not here and for your information you don't need to worry about me! I got myself here in one peace didn't I?"

I musta looked a little surprised.

"She's a little outspoken" John explained. He was rewarded with a glare.

"A LITTLE?!" Another voice asked. I glanced over to see Paul standing in the doorway.

Kathryn glanced at him then looked away quickly. John rolled his eyes and I was left totally confused.

"Whatever!" I finally said "But if the captain sees her he's gonna freak!"

"We still on for that hanging out later, Marc-Andre?" Paul said.

"Someone's gotta keep an eye on you." I joked.

Brett and I had met Paul early in the war. He was cool guy who now reminds me of Matt in a lot of ways. Guess that's why we liked him so much. He was transferred to another part of the city a while back, but now he's here again and we picked up where we left off.

"What are you doing here, Kat?" I asked her.

"Not talking to you" She muttered quietly.

"What did I do?" I asked, hurt.

"Nothing." She said looking away.

"So, you're mad at me for doing nothing?" I asked, confused.

"Yes... and no..." She said.

"What?" This was getting weird. "You're not making any sense!"

"I don't have to!" She said looking me in the eye. "And you do know what you did" She added as an afterthought. She then turned to John and Marc-Andre "Who's this captain guy?"

I knew when I'd been dismissed from the conversation. What I did? I have no idea what she was talking about. I sighed, maybe I'd remember sometime...

This looked like something Brett and Mary-Kate would have done before they started going out. It must be a general rule that women always get mad at the guy and the guy never knows why.

"He's our commanding officer and you could get me into a lot of trouble if he..." John said.

John was interrupted by the sound of the captains voice coming in our direction "Hide!" He hissed to Kathryn.

I glanced around for somewhere to hide. Noting a desk in the corner I quickly dived uner, just as this Captain guy walked into the room.

"Status report?" Captain Gibson said.

"Everything is normal sir." I heard Paul say.

"Good, keep your eyes open men. We've had reports of enemy scouts and snipers moving up behind our lines." Captain Gibson said.

"Yes sir!" The three guys said.

I rolled my eyes, all this saluting yessir stuff seemed so dumb to me. The captain walked out of the room and I started to crawl out from under the table, when he walked back in. I froze in place. At the moment he was facing away from me, but if he turned around he'd definitely see me!

We need to get away from this guy. Where's a cop when you need one? I thought that maybe we could try to get back to the hospital before he caught us. But, the hospital is so far away and I'm running out of breath.

Just then I heard a little screech from Ryan and then a bang, I glanced back to see that he'd tripped over, Mary-Kate and I had a small head start!

We ran with all of our might and we were getting closer to the hospital. We were almost home free when I felt someone grab my shoulder.

"MARY-KATE!" I Screamed

She spun around "LET GO OF HER!" She screamed punching Ryan.

He let go of me and we started running again.

"You're going to pay for that!" He yelled at Mary-Kate.
