I looked around the room. It was very dull. The walls were white, the ceiling was white, the nurse's and doctor's uniforms were white. I NEED COLOUR!

Atleast I had a window and I could look outside. I felt the warm breeze come in from the window and I could smell freshly cut grass.

I decided to take a short nap while I waited for my friends to come in. I started to dream...

In the dream Brett and I were sitting in a field of beautiful flowers. We were happy. I guess the war had finished or maybe it had never started, cause we didn't seem to have a worry in the world. He picked a flower and handed it to me. I smiled and thanked him. Then...

The Doctor woke me up

I rubbed my eyes and grumbled.

"Have a nice nap?" She asked cheerfully.

"Yes." I glared.

She walked around my bed and took some vital signs. She took my pulse, blood pressure, temperature and asked me if I wanted anything.

"I want to see my friends." I said.

"I'll send them in for you." Doctor Jessica said.

After she left, they walked in and gave me hugs, and in Brett's case, a kiss.

"How are you feeling?" Ashley asked me.

"I'm tired and a little hungry." I said. "Do they know what's wrong with me yet?"

Ashley shook her head "Not yet" She said

"I'm sure you'll be fine" Brett said sitting down on the edge of the bed carefully.

"Yeah" Ashley agreed with a smile.

"I hope you're right.."

"I had a wonderful dream of us in a beautiful field with flowers. It was sunny and warm and bright." I sighed to Brett with a dreamy look in my eye.

"When this is over, we'll live it out. I promise." He smiled.

The thought of it brought a big smile to my face.

"There's that smile I miss." Brett said.

"Man!" Ashley exclaimed. "This room has NO colour!"

"I know!" I agreed. "This is depressing. Some colour couldn't hurt!"

Brett and Marc-Andre rolled their eyes.

"I know. I know!" I said "If you had your way we'd all live in a black and white world. THAT is why boys are soo boring!"

"I'm offended" Brett said pretending to wipe a tear from his eye.

"I'm sure you are!"

The doctor came back in and didn't seem too happy.

"Ashley, may I speak to you in the hall?" She asked.

Ashley nodded. "Only if Marc-Andre can come with me."

The doctor nodded and they both went out into the hall.

"What's wrong doctor?" I asked her with a shaky voice.

"We ran more tests on your sister and it turns out she has a sub-dermal haematoma." She said.

"What does that mean!?" Marc-Andre said.

"It means that when she hit her head, some blood vessels were damaged and blood is leaking into the tissue that lies between the brain and the skull. As time passes, the blood can build up and put pressure on the brain, causing damage."

"Oh my God." I said. I felt weak, luckily Marc-Andre caught me and got me a chair. I'm so glad he was there with me.

"We're going to need to operate." The Doctor said.

"Will she be better after the operation?" I asked her.

"As long as there are no compliations." She replied.

I nodded trying to take it all in.

"What's going on?" Mary-Kate asked me looking worried.

"I'm sure it's nothing" I said wishing the Doctor had asked me to go out. But it made sense she asked Ashley considering she was the next of kin.

The door opened and The Doctor came in with Marc-Andre and Ashley. I noticed Ashley looked really pale and Marc-Andre was helping her walk. Now I was really worried.

"Wha... what is it?" Mary-Kate asked. I held her hand tightly as we waited for the news.

Marc-Andre explained it to us almost exactly like he had heard it from the doctor. "She's going to need surgery" he said after he finished explaining.

"Oh no." I breathed. I looked at Mary-Kate and she looked back.

"I don't want to go. You can't make me! Get me out of here." Mary-Kate said, starting to struggle.

"Mary-Kate, calm down." I said holding her shoulders down. "Listen to me, for once."

She calmed down a little bit, but I could still see she was very scared.

"You need this operation or else the headaches will get worse and it will start to affect you." I said. "I don't want to lose the Mary-Kate I love. It's just going to be a small surgery and then you'll be back to your normal, healthy self. You'll be asleep the whole time and you won't feel a thing."

"But what if something goes wrong?" She asked me, scared.

"Nothing will go wrong." I said and I kissed her.

I had to choke back tears seeing Brett with Mary-Kate. I missed Matt so much. Marc-Andre would be leaving in four days, and now my sister has to undergo surgery. What if something happens to her. I'll be totally on my own!

Almost as if he read my mind Marc-Andre wrapped his arms around me "Everything will be ok" He whispered "You'll see"

I just nodded and sniffed a little.

Ashley and Marc-Andre had gone to our motel room for the night since only one visitor was allowed to stay after hours. A thunderstorm had rolled into Riverside and so Mary-Kate's operation was delayed untilt he next day. Mary-Kate and I sat in a big chair and looked out the window. I had always loved thunderstorms and watching them was one of my favorite things to do. We had all the lights turned off and the lightning light up the room.

The gentle sound of the rain falling was so peaceful and relaxing.

"Brett?" Mary-Kate said softly.

"Do you think my parents are still alive?" She asked, not moving her head from my chest.

"I like to believe they are." I answered. "There are known prison camps and they could be in one of them."

"Do you think about your parents?"

I slowly nodded. "Yeah. I think about them a lot, but I know they are in a better place."

We sat in silence for a little longer.

"What will happen to me if something goes wrong during the operation?" She asked.

I held her tightly. "Nothing is going to go wrong."

"I know, but what if something does?" She asked, looking up.

"I'll die along with you." I aswered. "Maybe not physically, but emotionally."
