One by one people started to come into the main room and sat down where they could find room. After some waiting and trivial discussions, we were finally ready to get down to business.

"Alright people, I'm going to cut to the chase. I propose we send a group to the surface and see if we will be able to survive." I said.

People immediately began to talk amongst themselves with some random comments coming out clearer than others.

"He's crazy"

"We'd never survive"

"I'd love to see the surface again"

I cleared my throat to get their attention.

"People! People!" I said, lightly hitting the table with my hand.

They just kept talking and making comments. I had enough of this.

"QUIET!" I said, slamming my hand down ont he table. The room went dead quiet in a second. I resumed talking in a calm voice. "I don't want to live the rest of my days down in this shelter. I want to see the sun again, feel the wind in my face and smell the fresh air."

"Who's to say it'll be fresh air?" A voice called from the crowd.

"Who's to say it won't be?" I retaliated.

He was silent.

"Look" I said seriously "We're low on food supplies, we'll be out of food in a month" I said

The room was silent, as the full impact (ironic word) of the words hit them.

"We'll never gain anything if we don't take a risk or two. We need to at least try, there's nothing to lose." I said.

Damien got up from the crowd and stood beside me. "I've overheard many of you talk about 'old times' from before the meteorite hit Earth. If this works, you will all be able to relive some of those memories again."

People started to discuss amongst themselves again, but more positive feedback was being said. Damien and I smiled at each other.

Danny stood up and walked to where Damien and I were standing.

I spotted Amy standing in the corner of the room, I waved for her to come over.

...Amy...

I couldn't decide how I felt about this.

It was the most exciting thing in the last 5 years

It was the most scary thinf of the last 5 years.

I walked over to Sean "Hey" I said

"What do you think about all this?" He asked.

"I think... I think there's no way you're going without me!" I said with a grin.

...Sean...

"I'm going too." Mary-Kate said from one of the entrances. She was keeping her balance by clutching the wall beside her.

I rushed to her and put my arm around her. She now used me to keep her balance. "You should be in bed." I said.

"No way am I going to miss this." She said, looking up at me.

"But, you're ill."

"I have to see the sun again, even if only for a brief time." She looked straight at me, almost crying for the chance. "I need to see the sun."

I sighed and slowly nodded. "Alright," I said, brusing a stray strand of hair from her face.

"Even If it's the last thing I do" she said quietly, resting her head on my shoulder.

"Don't say that" I said, I felt like crying when she talked like that.

Ashley walked up "No way is she going without me."

"Alright. I think we have enough of the five of us..." I started, but Danny cut me off.

"I'm going too." He said.

I looked at him with a surprised look on my face. "But, I thought you were against this whole idea."

He glanced at my arm which was still around Mary-Kate, could the guy be any subtler? "I'm going" He said "Somebodies gotta look out for Mary-Kate" He said

"I planned on doing that" I retaliated.

"Whatever" He pointedly ignored me and turned to Mary-Kate "Do you need help getting back to your room?" He asked.

She nodded and moved away from me a little, he put an arm around her and they walked away. I stared after them angrily.

I stopped through the halls, still angry. Suddenly, I heard Ashley who was trying to catch up to me.

"Sean! Wait!" I heard her call. After a little jog, Ashley caught up to me. "What's wrong?" She asked as we walked.

"Nothing." I said.

She got in front of me and looked at me. "Something's got to be wrong. I've never seen you mad like this?"

"I told you, it's nothing." I said, trying to get her to leave me alone. I stepped by her and continued my march.

"Is it about Mary-Kate?" I heard her call behind me.

"What makes you think that?" I called over my shoulder.

"Like duh! That whole performance back there! You storm off when we haven't even started planning!"

"Fine," I said, a little calmer, "Get everyone together in the mess hall in fifteen minutes and we will start planning"

Ashley didn't say anything more, she gave a nod and left to get the others. This was not a time to let my feelings get the better of me. But I can't help it.

...Mary-Kate...

Danny helped me back to my room, and we sat down to talk for awhile.

"Are you sure about going to the surface?" He asked.

I just gave him the look.

"Ok, Ok!" He said putting his hands up.

"I just don't want anything bad to happen to you, Mary-Kate" He said. "I don't want to lose you"

"Oh.... thanks." I said a little surprised. Danny wasn't exactly my idea of the best guy in the world... or what's left.

"Mary-Kate, I..." Danny was interrupted by Ashley knocking at the door.

"Sorry to interrupt," She said, "Sean wants us all at the mess hall for a planning session."
