“I don’t know,” She said nervously. “Maybe this is not the best time to tell him. He does have a lot to think about now.” Marie-Kate said.
“Mary-Kate, either you tell him, or I will.” Ashley said
“No!” Mary-Kate screamed.
“No what?” Brett asked. They were almost at the Inn where they would be sleeping.
“Um... Ashley was trying to convince me to give her the top bunk.” Mary-Kate explained nervously.
Brett looked at Marc-Andre. “That reminds me, who is going to get the top bunk between us?”
“I am of course.” Marc-Andre said proudly.
“Oh yea? How come?” Brett wanted to know.
“Because I am the prince and I say I get the top bunk!” He laughed.
“You know what?” Brett said with a grin “I challenge you to a duel!”
Everyone laughed and Marc-Andre admitted he was only teasing Brett. Brett would get the top bunk. The Inn was a fairly large building resembling a cottage more than an Inn. Everything inside was clean and smelled fresh.
“Classy.” Ashley said.
They were shown to their rooms immediately. The girl’s room was the size of a large bedroom with a beautiful view of the adjoining valley beside the castle. It had one queen-size bed in the middle of the room.
“Wow,” Mary-Kate said as she admired the view. “This is beautiful!”
“Yea,” Brett said softly, “Beautiful.” As he looked at Mary-Kate. He didn’t realize he was staring until Ashley nudged his arm. He blushed a bit and went to see his room.
It was a little smaller than the girls rooms. It also had only one queen size bed. Brett and Marc-Andre looked at each other awkwardly.
“You had better stay on your side or you’re losing a limb.” Brett joked.
“Same to you.” Marc-Andre said.
Back in the girl’ room, Mary-Kate and Ashley were talking. They didn’t have any clothes to pack, so they simply lay on the bed facing each other.
“Mary-Kate, you have to tell him today or it will drive you nuts!” Ashley said.
“How can I tell him that I like him?” She wanted to know. “I’m no good at these things!”
“Just compliment him and be a little extra nice to him.” Ashley suggested.
“What if he doesn’t feel the same way?” Mary-Kate asked.
“What if he does?” Ashley said with a grin.
“Then I would be the happiest woman alive.” Mary-Kate said with a dreamy look in her eyes.
Someone knocked on the door. The girls said ‘enter’ and it was Brett.
“Hey! I’m going to the market to try and find some new clothes.” Brett said “Anyone care to join me?”
Ashley said she was going to spend time with Marc-Andre and volunteered Mary-Kate to go with Brett. Mary-Kate gave her sister a grin.
The sun was hot and the winds were quiet that day. There wasn’t a cloud in the sky. Brett and Mary-Kate had been shopping for an hour, joking around, trying on clothes and just talking about nothing.
“I think I need a rest.” Mary-Kate said, wiping her forehead.
“You’re not passing out on me again are you?” Brett asked
“No, no. I’m just tired.” Mary-Kate smiled.
Before she knew it, Brett had picked her up and started walking towards the river.
“Hey!” She laughed. She acted like it was a joke, but inside she had never felt safer in her life.
“Here we are.” Brett said as he set her down under a large tree. Brett sat down beside her and leaned against the truck of the tree. Mary-Kate put her head on his chest and Brett put his arm around her.
Brett broke the silence. “Mary-Kate, there is something I have to tell you.” Brett said. Mary-Kate sat up and looked at him.
“I have something to tell you too.” She said.
They looked into each other’s eyes and they already knew the question and the answer. They slowly leaned towards each other and shared their first kiss.
“That was... wow.” Brett said. He had feelings for Mary-Kate for a very long time, but never acted on them.
“I wouldn’t mind doing that again.” Mary-Kate said with a grin. They kissed tenderly and then returned to looking at the beautiful view.
The sun started to set and they decided to go back to the Inn. They held hands the whole way and gently kissed again before entering. They each went to their own rooms.
