Dave Philips sits at his desk grading papers. He is a teacher at Ocean
view high school where his three older children attend school. He gets to Ben Mackey's paper. Ben is his daughter's boyfriend. As he reads the paper, he notices it resembles Ashley's paper on World War II. He only remembers because he helped Ashley out with some information on it. He reads the rest in disgust.
Scene 2: The problem begins
Kitchen
Tina Philips is preparing dinner, while Cali is coloring at the table.
This was probably the last meal Tina would ever make. She felt a little weak and her head started to hurt, but she put on a smile for her family."Mommy look! I drew the family. Here's you and daddy and Mary-Kate and Kirsten and Ashley and Matthew and me." Cali said proud.
Tina smiled.
"That is beautiful. Let's put it on the refrigerator." She said.
At this point Kirsten walks in from college. Tina turns to her.
"Where is everyone sweetie?" She asked curious.
"Ashley had drama practice, Matthew took the bus home, and Mary-Kate
had to stay after for extra help." Kirsten said sighing.
"What's wrong?" Tina said.
"Ben and I got in a fight."
"About what?" Tina asked.
"I don't want to talk about it." Kirsten said and went upstairs.
Scene 3: Uh Oh Mary-Kate
Coach Ross's office
Mary-Kate sat down in her coaches' office waiting nervously for him to
arrive. John Ross and her dad are best friends and he treated her like
a 2nd daughter. When he walked in, he had a depressed look on his face.
'This can't be good.' Mary-Kate thought.
"So what did you want to see me about?" Mary-Kate asked.
"I really hate to be the one to tell you this kiddo. I mean you're the
star player on my team and like a 2nd daughter to me." He said then put his hand up and started to cry.
Mary-Kate got even more nervous.
"What is it?" She asked.
"I have to suspend you from the team. The principal said you don't
meet the grade requirements to be on he team." He said still upset.
"What!?" Mary-Kate said shocked.
She felt like crying.
"I know. It's not fair." He said.
"But we're in the middle of the season. I have to play!" Mary-Kate
said.
"I know. I know. Unless you pull your grades up in he next two weeks,
we're toast." Coach said.
Mary-Kate turned pale.
Scene 4: Sweet Dustin
School Auditorium
Ashley's drama meeting ended. She started to walk to the door, and
then spotted her boyfriends waving to her. She walked over to him.
"Dustin. What are you doing here?" She said then kissed him.
"I came to pick you up." He said.
"That's so sweet, but I already have a ride home." Ashley said.
Dustin looked a little upset.
"Don't worry. I'll just give my mom a call and tell her I'm coming
home with you." She said.
Dustin smiled.
Scene 5: The phone call
Philips kitchen
Tina is setting the table when the phone rings. She holds her head.
The ringing sounded 10 times louder than it really was. Dave walks in and grabs his jacket.
"Hello?" Tina asked in pain.
"Mom? Are you okay?"
"Yeah fine Ash." She lied.
Dave looked at his wife concerned.
Is it okay if Dustin gives me a ride home?" Ashley asked.
"I guess honey. Where's your sister though?" Tina asked.
"I don't know." Ashley said.
"Alright hurry home because dinner is almost ready." Tina said.
"K bye." Ashley said and hung up.
"Are you feeling okay sweetie? You look a little pale." Dave noticed.
"I'm great." Tina lied again.
"Who was it?" Dave asked.
"Ashley. Dustin is giving her a ride home." Tina said.
Dave turned to his wife.
"Oh. When they get here, have Dustin Wait. I would like a word with
those two." Dave said.
"Is everything alright?" Tina asked.
"No. But I'll tell you about it when I get back." Dave said and
kisses his wife good-bye.
Matthew comes down the stairs in his soccer uniform and sits at the
table.
"Honey. You don't have practice tonight." Tina said.
"I know mom, but MK Promised to help me out when she got home from
school." Matthew said.
Tina nodded and took out the bread to cut for dinner. At this point
Cali enters and sits at the table. Dustin's annoying sports car burn
rubber. Tina rolled her eyes and opened the door as Dustin walked Ashley to the door.
"Hey guys." Tina said in a fake pleasant tone. Ashley picked up on
it, but Dustin didn't. She knew her parents hated Dustin.
"Hey Mrs. Philips. How are you?" He asked.
"Fine. How about staying for dinner Dustin?" Tina said.
He agreed and they sat down at the table. Tina noticed Kirsten wasn't
here.
"Ash. Go tell your sister dinner's ready." Tina said.
Ashley sighed and ran upstairs. She walked into Kirsten's room and saw
she was crying on her bed. Ashley sat next to her.
"Is everything okay?" Ashley asked.
Kirsten didn't answer. She never told her sister's her problems, but
she made Mary-Kate and Ashley tell her what was wrong. I guess that's what she thought being a big sister was all about. Ashley sighed.
"Well dinner's ready." Ashley said.
"I'm not hungry." Kirsten said.
Ashley got up and left.
