A Little About Me And How I Got Into Cindy

After all these years, I still get more furious... more annoyed... more ready to kill when Cindy gets rubbished than at the behest of anyone else. As with the other sites, an explanation may be in order.

I first discovered her in 1988, in the midst of my torch-carrying for Rosanna Arquette. Actually, it was indirectly because of Rosanna that I found her - see, the first magazine I got with her was that year's "10 Most Beautiful Women" issue of Harper's Bazaar, which I bought because Rosanna was one of them. The other nine were:

  • Mel Harris (Hope from thirtysomething)
  • Robin Givens
  • Katharine Hepburn
  • Brooke Shields
  • Phylicia Rashad (Clair from The Cosby Show
  • Mimi Rogers
  • Jackie Collins
  • Farrah Fawcett

And a 22-year-old brunette model with a mole on the left side of her face. She was also on the cover of the magazine. She was gorgeous. She was Cindy Crawford.

I don't know why I was attracted to her; I must have a thing for brunettes with moles, I guess. Whatever it was, I originally cannibalized the mag for all the Rosanna-related stuff, and got rid of the rest of it... but something made me go back to the garbage bag that had the mag in it (paperbanks had not as yet arrived in Barbados) and retrieve the Cindy stuff. (This was also, of course, the year of Cindy's first spread in Playboy, but I didn't actually buy the magazine at the time; it wasn't until years later that I got my own copy).

The following year, Cindy was down on the island doing a shoot for a fashion company; now, being a popular tourist destination a lot of celebs visit the place (though probably not Jerry Hall any longer) but I was usually relieved to not having run into any of them. But when I found out that Cindy had been there... on the same island as me... I tell you, I was stunned! Finally someone I actually wanted to meet and... (My dad has a picture of me as a lad with cricket commentator Reds Pereira, but it's not like he was one of my faves.) Fortunately, the ever-gracious Cindy let one of the island's newspaper photographers take some pictures of her, and a few of them are in the main image above. If only they were in colour!

It was around this time that my loyalties switched from Rosanna to Paula Abdul, but Cindy stayed around. And stayed... and stayed... and thus it began. News reports, videos, posters, adverts... you name it, I wanted to get it or had it. And when I managed to get back to England, I brought my great love with me. I do like other women, yeah, but everyone has one they like more than anyone else. That one is Cynthia Ann Crawford; and this site features her more than anyone else...
