Andy worked as an inspector for the San Francisco Police Department and he coincidentially was assigned to almost every police case that involved the sisters. Eventually, Andy discovered the sisters' secret, and once he discovered that they were responsible for saving so many people's lives he risked his career and ultimately sacrificed his life to protect them. Andy first dated Prue when they were in high school but they broke up when they went to college. Right after Prue realized that she had received her powers, she ran into him again. They tried to have a normal relationship for a while but Prue's unexplained sudden disappearances and cancellations (due to warlocks and demons) annoyed Andy and caused him to suggest that they break up. When Prue used a truth spell to discover whether or not Andy could accept her secret, Andy admitted that he could not and Prue broke off their relationship completely. Andy finally discovered the sisters' secret, but this revelation did not renew his and Prue's relationship. However, he did sacrifice his job to protect them when Police Internal Affairs began questioning all of his unsolved cases. Ultimately Andy sacrificed his life to save Prue and her sisters when a demon disguised as an IA investigator, with the help of another demon who could reset time, tried to kill the sisters.
